I thought the band sounded pretty good. This is considering that most performcances on Private Sessions are pretty bad. Did you get to se the Goo Goo Dolls performace?? Don't know what it is about that show but it often gets the worst out of the bands I like....

I did see the Goos on there and I agree with you, they were not good at all. Someone that I thought was good was Melissa Etheridge.

Hall and Oates and Heart were both good on the show.

Then again, I can't imagine Nancy Wilson not being perfect in any setting.

Loved it when Jon described the Jersey-based reality shows as a "waste...of...life...go read a book!" I guess that's because I've always felt the same way about reality shows in general, even back in the days when MTV spawned them.

As for their "country cousins," Jon said the timing was right to try to get more C&W stars to cover their songs. But hadn't they effectively been banished, I mean, transferred to their record label's country division to die with dignity before moving on to Island Def Jam (which also happens to be the home of Rihanna)?

I made the mistake of commenting before watching the video. I had heard this story before, and I always thought Jon was referring to the keep the faith tour (which I was there for.) but in that interview he says something about these days, so I wasn't aware they played in Knoxville on that tour. Guess I wasnt the only one.

Melly no you are right, Jon is talking to Alex Van Halen and telling him the story which is on the TD tour as Van Halen was the opener for a few dates overseas on that tour. But, they actually did play Knoxville on KTF not TD, so the story does pertain to the show you were at...at least, that's how I understand it.

The Knoxville show was in March of 1993. I believe it was the 7th. I was there in the 2nd row! I remember those orange seats. Jon put his all into winning over that audience. He even went out into the audience and got his shirt ripped off. I wish he knew that Def Lep played the same venue around the same time and sold far fewer tickets than they did so it wasn't as bad as it couldn't have been.
