Default Proof that I can do better than Bon Jovi.

Aloha !

Like I've said a few times now since the release of The Circle; I can do better than Bon Jovi do. I just didn't have the tools and needed an extra guitar player.

I talked about this with Iceman and said if he'd come over we should record stuff together. Last week he did came over to Holland for a business trip and had 2 days off. I invited him to my house and we did a little jamming and recorded some songs. It was a lot of fun, I took him through Rotterdam for a cultural trip, had icecream together (was cold though, brrr) and it was just like we were best buddies (sorry Thierry).

I invited him over to my house and we did some jamming together. There's some awful songs we did I won't share but here's the first proper recording we did. When We Were Beautiful.

This proves that we can do better because it sounds better than the Bon Jovi version. It also proves the theory that a lot of stufff Jon and Richie wrote for The Circle might be good songs, just produced in a terrible way. Anyway, without further redue;

Supersonic: Lead vocals and chords
Iceman: Backing vocals and lead guitar

Done in 2 takes. The vocals were recorded in one take. Take that Jon Bon.

More to come. Jack (Ferret) will come over soon and we might record some stuff as well.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

This version is amazing.
Iceman hits the second vocal spot on, like I would have done or at least tried it.

Pity I couldn't be there or it would have been epic, now it stops at being brilliant

Well done guys. Absolutely well done !

I salute you,
Thunderstrucker

Cool shit!

I do think about what I'd fix and change as I listen to the album, in fact just before I happened by your thread I was trying to work out a better track order for the album (I find most of their albums in the decade to be poorly tracked.) Hey, at least it's something I can do since I can't very well go and start laying down vocal tracks over Jon's to demonstrate how I'd do it if I could.

Anyway, I'd take what you guys did and hbybrid it with the actual band track arrangement, particularly the main riff you have going at the beginning. The combo of the two would make the song bigger and ballsier and a more fitting 2nd track.

I particularly appreciate the fact you two got together, bonded, and wound up getting creative by putting your energy into "what would we do to make this song how we'd like it?" That communicates the mostly clear way possible that you both do like the album in some form. I'd love to sit in and be part of that if I could.

I agree with you both that the album could be made better, no doubt. I just personally love the blueprint of what you have with the album and frankly, there is not much I'd change lyrically because it was very much a case of "oh thank christ, finally!" I stand by my love for this album, however, the ideas you present in this song alone such as the guitar bridge before the 2nd verse, spotlight that. Excellent work and thanks for sharing!

Seb, please tell me this is just the first shot at your own version of WWWB and it’s not your final version. No offence, but in my opinion original version is miles better. Yours is very good if we are talking about performance by amateurs, but far from perfect and far from BJ quality. You think it’s great, I think it’s not. And definitely not a proof that you can do better than BJ.

when jon sings BAAAAACK it sounds a million times better and that is a key feature in the song plus your voice is weak compared to what we may consider now to be a crap voice for jon to have.

nice try but bon jovis is the dogs left hanger, studio or live and i think jon would be saying "take that" to you.

on a positive note however your chords sound very good

lol, come on guys, of course it's not Bon Jovi. But I do really appreciate what they've done with it, and it's not half bad. Picked a good song to mess around with and I quite like the picked up tempo. The original for me is still one of the most outstanding songs the band have ever done.

Woah!

I've always thought you were a cocky piece of shit Seb, of which there isn't much doubt but this goes to show that it's well justified. Great effort by you guys! I have to say I prefer this stripped down version to the original BJ version. I've always thought the song had the potential to be a really good song, but all the different layers on the BJ original just spoil it. The vocals on your version are mixed well and there is some good guitar work going on. Shame you and Ice live so far away really or you could do this more often.

This is good. To be better than Bon Jovi you also have to write the song. Show us something you wrote.

Nice - hope you guys had fun. You certainly seem to enjoy making music. I also like the faster tempo - and the stripped down production.
