I think a lot of people who review albums in magazines like that are false and say the things that their audience want to hear. I.e. Bon Jovi = cheesy pop rock band, so that's what we'll write about. He's basically saying that Bon Jovi are full of shit and write about meaningless junk to sell records. A lot of artists can be accused of doing this, but Bon Jovi are definately not meaningless in the majority of their songs.

I would have liked to see a Q review of Keep The Faith, although Q might not have been publishing in 92/93.

They gave TD 4 stars when they reviewed it for the remasters re-releases.

Q magazine actually ranked it as one of their top 10 albums of 1995 in an issue towards the end of 1995 or the start of 1996. Blur's "Great Escape" was the album of the year and These Days was listed second although I dont think the other 9 albums from the top 10 were neccessarily listed in order. I distinctly remember some parts of the brief explanation for its inclusion. It went something like "It looked all over for New Jersey's hairiest when 1992's poodle-exorcising Keep the Faith "stiffed" (their inverted commas not mine) at 8 million copies world wide." Then Q went onto say that the greatest hits and Always confirmed that BJ would survive grunge and These Days consolidated their status by "cowboy booting" Michael Jackson's HIStory album off the UK number 1 album slot. "Hey God", "Lie to Me" and "Something to Believe In" were singled out as the albums highlights and Q believed These Days was "arguably the Jove's finest musical hour to date".

I am thinking about Bruce here, who sings about working people but the same could apply to Bon Jovi. None of them grew up rich.

Yes u dont have to be in poverty leve to write theose songs. They toured all around the world and seen so many people suffering... u can defnetly feel that pain....

I really like to know the reason why TD endup with so dark...

you mean from what they saw looking out their limos? Or you mean the luxury hotels, or maybe their housekeepers?

It's one thing to accidentally see a homeless person when you take a wrong turn off the highway and another to lose everything you own and live under a bridge yourself.

And I don't find TD particularly dark ---- dark or deep are not words, I'd use for TD at all.

Great songwriters are able to come come up with story lines that differ from their lives and/or put themselves in someone else's shoes, see the world as if they were somebody else, instead of just writing about themselves for a change.
Jon and Richie are able to do that.

One of my favourite ever songs is about the world facing the 4 minutes count down to a nuclear holocaust only to find out it was a false alarm...

you don't necesarilly need to live or experience something to be able to write a great song about it.

As far as music rags go Q's pretty decent and has much more credibility than the NME but it still has the trendy thing going on hence why they need to be at least a bit negative even when it has nothing to do with the music bar a coupla lyrics.

Strange actually I remember round about that time they ran Jon on the cover with king of rock as the headline.
