Jon did sing part of IBTFY in..... Ostend?? I can't remember where it was.... But the crowd kept on singing Whoawhoawhoa when Jon returned so he took his guitar and sang along with us! It was pretty cool.

But the best version of IBTFY was in Werchter Belgium in 2001. The PA system broke, the lights didn't work anymore... it was dark and only Tico was hitting his drums and the crowd sang the song..... very cool!!!

if you mean at the beginning then probably just to change guitars as there isn't that much time.
No, he didn't return for quite a while.
let me check my boot but i'm pretty sure he was back when the 'everybody needs....' came on.

During European concerts such things don't happen that often. They might get a drink, but as long as the performance is strong (which it is when Richie sings) they cheer a lot and there's a big round of applause when he finishes.

Nope I wasn't at Mannheim.... maybe he did it there as well, but I've seen it in Gelsenkirchen, Amsterdam, Ostend or London... that's all I have seen this tour, so it must have been one of this shows

It was Mannheim. I was at all of the above shows. Mannheim was the first show where the crowd kept singing at the end of the show & Jon played a few chords & sung a line from the chrous.

This review confirms it:

http://www.bonjovicentral.com/jovita...=12529&start=0

After Jon handed the spotlight over to Richie for a breath-taking performance of I’ll be there for you, Richie broke into a really heart-felt intro. The crowd responded to the song so much that Richie put in an extra couple of minutes solo – amazing! During the final chords of the solo, Richie paid his respects to his die/hard fans by pointing at them, asking them to sing the “I’ll be there for you” part. But even the extra solo didn’t satisfy or silence the crowd. The lights went off, but the crowd – all of the crowd – kept chanting the whoa part over and over again. Jon came out, listened to it for a while, said “you still want more?”, started playing the chords with his guitar, and sang the final “I’ll be there for you” bit with the crowd, played some more and was finally forced to call it off.

The crowd tried it again in Amsterdam, but Jon wasn't having any of it.

It happened at all concerts after Mannheim but Mannheim was "real" and spontaneous, after that it was more or less planned.

Yes. Even though I haven't been there, I get chills upon my spine hearing or reading story's from it. It's the show I regret of the most for not going.

You should have seen it. Mannheim isn't a stadium but a big field with 70.000 people or something and everyone, absolutely everyone up to the very back of the field had his hands up clapping and singing. It was amazing.
