Destination Anywhere has this Born to Run ethos that makes it great. And Little City could be straight off Nebraska. Midnight in Chelsea has something about it, even if it's one of the weaker song and Janie used to work tremendously well live. Then there's tracks like Ugly which are just painfully bad. Same with Cold Hard Heart...only a bonus song but pain pain pain. It's Just Me, as someone else here said, is just a long boring track. I still can't believe some people think that Jon played that solo to Bobby over the phone and that's what made the album cut or whatever bullshit. There's Staring at your window which is a good album track. Naked is kind of funky but doesn't really work. And then there's August 7, 4:15. I find the idea in itself great - paying tribute to a little girl and reminding people of such a tragedy. But he should have written a song of his own rather than ripping off Rockin' in a Free World.

Overall I think it's a solid record. I would say it's great, if Jon wasn't blatantly ripping off Springsteen, Tom Petty and Neil Young while trying to sound somewhere between Brit-pop cool and pop-punk lame. In terms of lyrics, yeah, there's some gems there.

See this love letters mixed with whiskey? Just don't light a match when you kiss me. If I blow away, you know, I'll be back soon.
Have you heard the acoustic version of August 7? To me the meaning of the song comes through a lot me and you can almost hear the emotion in Jon's voice. I prefer it to the rock version.

I like Destination Anywhere more than I like some of the band's work. It really is a top notch album for me. The following songs really do it for me:
Queen of New Orleans
Staring At Your Window
Every Word
Destination Anywhere
Learning How to Fall
August 7
Little City

I admit the album´s got a lot of depth and attitude and it probably presents something JB genuinely wanted to create.
Yet I´ve never been the biggest fan of DA. There are some fantastic moments on the album, but as a whole, I find it a bit depressing.
I think Janie is a great pop song and simultaneously a very clever love song, too. And I think August 7 may be the saddest song ever written. I still find it hard to listen to it or even think of the song. I hear the similarities to Free World, yet I don´t consider this a real issue in here.

I absolutely adore this CD. I played it to death when it came out and I still find it refreshing when I listen to it all these years later. I'd love for Jon to do another project with this kind of freedom from the machine. I think it would make for a much better album than the likes of the Circle or WAN. I'd take another Jon solo album over another band album in a heartbeat.

1º Stranger
2º Blaze
3º Aftermath
4º Undiscovered
5º Destination
