Default question about the concert in Fort Lauderdale 1998

just found out about this one. apparently it was one of the one off gigs during the these days - crush hiatus right ?
what's funny is to notice Richie improvising during the bad name solo, which is super cool. the whole concert sounds laid back and loose, which is actually a good thing.
why is Dave absent ? was it during the time he injured his hand (and prevented him from being on the 'real life' video) ?
for those who haven't seen it:

happy new year !

I believe this was a fan club show.

It pretty sure was around the time he injured his finger and therefore couldn't play.

The electric part was for a radio station show that was first billed as a JBJ appearance but then turned out to be a full band event (minus Dave).

And that version of Prayer at the end is fantastic!!! It's been a while since I've gotten chills with Prayer and this one did it!!! Thanks for sharing OP!!

Ah, 'tis a great show. But it pisses me off how parts of every song are cut out with silly interviews.

This was an interesting time for the band. I always wondered about the whole Dave thing. He disappeared for a lengthy time and what's even more interesting, the Real Life single is the only Bon Jovi official release to feature Hugh on a cover.

You must have responded to my post within seconds because by the time I edited my post, you had already responded. I do remember him in the IML video. And others.

I always thought the single album cover was interesting unless Jon or whoever thought it would confuse fans with just 3 members. I just can't see why a bruised finger would keep Dave out of a video and more so, a photo shoot. Unless he didn't officially play on it.

It wasn't bruised, it was almost chopped off by a circular saw. Hence being more serious to keep him out of action. I'm not sure if Real Life being on a different record label affected Hugh being on the cover or simply whether Jon wasn't that fussed as it wasn't treated as an official BJ song in terms of when IML came out, they "hadn't released anything in 5 years". Maybe they could have used an old photo, but being on hiatus probably meant they looked a lot different than from 96 so used a photo from the video shoot.

Agreed. Using an old photo would have looked silly if they wanted to promote the fact that they're back and having Jon Richie and Tico in a 3 person shot would have been odd.
