Default Question for Collectors

I just threw away all the cases of my Non Jovi and Non Keith CDs and LOVE the result. I've compacted from two tall CD holders that took up space and collected dust to one CD binder that holds all those CDs and their covers. Less clutter and less to collect dust!

Anyway, I was thinking of doing the same for all my Bon Jovi CDs and CD singles. I have about 200 officially released disks, so that would be another great big pile of clutter compacted into one organized thing. BUT... what do you think of this as a collector? Do you think there's any value in having the plastic cases that the CDs come in?

It's really about the entire package. That means, disc, booklet and case (and in Japan even an obi). It really loses value if one of these things is missings.

how could you?

you really should sell the cases - I'd buy them - I have so many cracked ones and it annoys the heck out of me. I even disassemble those free AOL ones to reuse the cases and replace the cracked cd cases

I don't like them sitting in a cd rack though. Right now, mine are boxed up, but once I move into the new place, they'll go right into the closet - I'll have fitted shelves but in a closet. The music is all on my computer and ipod - the cds and cases stowed away, out of sight, out of dust collection.

I used to burn copies on cds and have those in binders because I am paranoid about my original cds - thanks to the ipod, I don't need to do that anymore.

I guess it depends on what kind of a collector you are. Do you collect, hoping that things will increase in value? Or do you have all those discs because you love the music? I collect music - I don't care about the artwork, the case or anything else (I know - it's heresy ) as long as I have high quality lossless music files.
I'm the same with my books, I have copies of books that others wouldn't have in their houses. But they are "old friends" of mine and they stay.

Thats crazy! a part of being a collector has to do with the cases and sleeves. I have one whole wall with shelving holding all my cds and box sets.

I can't imagine gutting my CDs like that.

I shudder to think what you did to the 100,000,000 Fans box set.

A little of both where Bon Jovi is concerned. So, I better hang onto all those cases.

With most of my music collection, the CD goes in my carrier in my truck and the case goes in my closet on a CD tower. I don't care about the artwork or inner sleeve unless the singer is inarticulate and I need the lyrics.

As far as concerts, VCDs, and the like, I gave up on the idea of cases and artwork for those CDs ages ago. TOOOOOOO much clutter.

Maria... send me your mailing address. I'll GIVE you my cases. Do you need any DVD cases? I might consolodate that pile of junk next.

THAT is a Bon Jovi item. It's in perfectly good condition. My Elvis box sets are in good condition too.

i honestly thought you were kidding when i read the first post!!! i'm not a big collector, and i dont really have much cds/dvds/whatever (in general, not just bon jovi) but i keep *everything* in cases, even concerts, bootlegs, vcds, the good quality ones i try to print out a cover and put them on a case. i dont even replace cases, i dont care how old/broken they are, their value is on being the original ones...
