Selling stuff on QVC in 1995 didn't affect their image at all, but there was no concert then. They had an late-night Infomercial in 1993. I don't really think it makes much of a difference. It's all about business and selling a product. Even if they took flack for it next week, it would probably be forgotten about next month. If it were U2, critics would consider it brilliant marketing. There's already a critical prejudice against Bon Jovi.

well considering that Mtv and Vh1 don't play music anymore...well, at 3am in the morning maybe and most of the music on Mtv are the likes of P Diddy and bunch...a band has to do something to get the music out there.

I don't see a problem with it. No different than bands playing Regis and (who is it now?) Kelly. Or commercials for McDonald's. Heck Sting did a car commerical. It all about getting the product out there.

I see your points, but BJ are suppose to be attracting new fans, QVC is known I thought for 30+ . Nothing wrong with selling stuff on QVC , but putting a gig on it, strikes me as weird. I care where they play, its good to see them anytime anywhere. Just wonder what they type of broadcasting will do for their imagine with younger kids.

Looks like it is working, since they've sold over 15,000 copies on QVC so far. They are only offering 1 item for sale, not a slew of different products associated with Bon Jovi.
At least they aren't as bad as KISS. It would be a sad day if Bon Jovi coffins were sold!!! LMAO!!!

"Kids" don't mind that Brittney is selling Pepsi or the Backstreet Boys are selling Burger King hamburgers of that Yao Ming is selling... what is he selling? Anyone with a product has to use a competitve marketing strategy. If it's not shock value like Eminem or sex like J-Lo, why not QVC? Selling 15,000 CDs in a hour doesn't suck.

It is a SMART marketing move on Bon Jovi's part. Here is how it will work:

QVC paid a price to the boys from Jersey to actually test this promotion out. QVC wanted to reach a younger demographic, but first they wanted to see how it would work on a still semi-important rock band that has a fanbase and continues to add numbers (even while small) to it.

QVC wants to reach that age demographic that is congruent with the popular music scene. Think about it, they want popular relevant bands out today, to appear on there network. Hopefully that fan will stick around and buy some more stuff! Cause we all know QVC gets a % of each item.

Anyhow, I think it is a smart move because everyone makes money, and hey...you might even pick up a few more fans along the way. 15,000 might not seem like alot, but- 15,000 will fill up an arena. $50 average ticket price X 15,000 = $750,000 not to mention merchandise.

Even after paying all your staff on the tour, you still take home a nice paycheck for yourself. You can't really help it with the record producer a-holes making all the money off the CDs. They gotta make a living somehow.

Its all part of the American Dream...the pursuit of happiness often starts on the trail of money.
