Why can't they be both?

of course they can. they just should then say that they are a pop/rock band. richie mentioned bon jovi to be a pop band in a way like he wanted to say "bon jovi is a pop band and I now made a real rock album". yes, it is more rock than the last bon jovi albums, but who speaks "bad" about his own band? I don't like that, but that's just my opinion... please don't get me wrong, I love richie, but his performance disappointed me a bit.

He's probably acting weird because it's a very intense situation to be in. He's debuting his new album, struggling vocally and has what has already been pointed out, a crappy live set up in terms of the sound he's getting from the guitar.

He knows it's far from ideal but you've got to somehow keep smiling when all starts going to rat-shit - that's live music! It's difficult to not let it get to you at all though.

+1 That's very true. It was a terrible off day.

He has absolutely no range anymore in the higher parts and where he's found a way of dealing with it on Prayer by just shouting the words, during Every Road it's quite obvious how the clearity on the record is not how it's actually been sung in the studio.

It's going to be interesting to hear him sing older solo songs, Stranger In This Town was a shoutfest the last few times and I reckon pretty much everything from Stranger is out of his reach now. I'm sure it'll improve once he goes on tour in October when his voice has warmed up a bit but his hoarse tone is even in the lower regions of his voice. A real shame, and these are all the direct causes from too many cigarettes and too many beers.

R.I.P. Richie's golden voice 1983-2002 (done to be controversial but true nonetheless).

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
Hateful would be the only word to describe you. Same tripe coming outta your mouth on each post, if ya dont like it kid then dont write about it and get back to your field of expertise in the studio. you are a snooze fest

I liked looking at the clips--and don't expect perfection in this setting. Jon may nowadays have the "better" voice but I will take Richie's any day over Jon's--I just like its soulful quality. Just saying.

I think people should just let him do his thing and wait, until he is comfortable. It is prob. a very personal record, he is on his own without his band and he went through a lot in the last years. He is a person, not a machine...
