You don't need permission as long as no lyrics are changed.

nope, you need permission from the publisher ergo why people can do covers without the band wanting them to do it. The publisher just sees it as another way to make money so will very rarely say no.

I actually know guys who's publishers have used songs in adverts without even telling or asking them if it's ok and they've only found out when they've went to a bank machine and found out that they're not as skint as they thought they were.

what paper did u read this in, r u sure they werent joking, ie her career is living on a prayer?

She cant sing, the only reason she got picked for SCLUB7 was because she was hanging outside a radio station and some record guy said I like the look of u can u sing. It wasnt her voice he was looking at

well she made simon fuller and BMG i think it was ALOT of money being part of s club 7 so she did her job well and is the only one out of them thats actually done anything note worthy since they were disbanded.

On a slightly similar note, I'm covering livin on a prayer on saturday night and was layign down backign tracks for it today. think rachel would come and sing with me if I asked nicely?

Actually, no-one needs permission to record someone elses song if it is done in a certain way

We can all remember the crime of bryan adams heaven and don henley's boys of summer being covered two years ago as a dance track, and i thnk a lot of people asked, why would they let that happen? they didn't but they couldn't stop it

Well how it works is this, they release the track on bootleg and it gets thrown around the clubs, it makes its way around the underground scene and then starts to play on commercial dance stations, galaxy etc, once galaxy starts to play it, the demand for the record starts to make an impact on general record sales and makes it into the top 40. Thats how RnB artists get away with all the sampling of other tunes they do. And the original recording artist get zilch!!!!!

Galaxy are playing a tune at the moment called "you should really know" by someone called the pirates, its a reply to mario winans "i don't wanna know", this track is a bootleg, but i bet, in a few months it will be UK number 1

im stil convinced you need at least the labels permission to cover a song. it is copyrighted material. sure, if its one of thoses bootlegs which get only airplay or play on the net they can get away with with it, but an officially released cd that u buy in your local Music store?and one in the official nations chart? no way.

or id at least like to think theres no way

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

i asked my mate who is a drum and bass artist, he was winding me up one day and said he was gonna do a remix of a jovi song, i told him he would need to get permission, and thats what i was told, aslong as the song works its way up from bootleg status there is nothing an artist can do, pretty sad innit!!!

I mean, all these artisits get ripped off, but saying that, with the advent of the interent they get ripped off anyway!!!

Thats how the eamon and frankee songs worked out, frankee's song is a bootleg reply to eamon and he can't make any money out of it because of they way the song has come to the publics attention, so not only did she cheat on him but she ripped his music off too, the b***h!!!!! lol

Brian May recently wrote on his website (regarding a cover version of a Queen song) that permission is not needed as long as the cover follows certain "rules".
