My point was that someone had said the frontmen of these bands were irreplaceable, and I countered that to the real fans the whole package is irreplaceable.

It actually brings up a good point though. When Keef fell from the tree, they postponed their gigs for about 2 months while he recuperated from surgery. Could they have played on without him? They had Ronnie, they could bring in someone else to play guitar too. It would have been the wrong decision, but they could have done it and his absence wouldn't have been as huge as Mick's. The Average Joe would have been happy because the songs would have sounded about right because Mick was singing it; again real fans would be disappointed though not to have Keef. If Mick had feel from the tree, a replacement singer wouldn't have worked with Average Joe, so couldn't be considered. The Stones simply made the right call, by postponing, maybe because they get that it should be about the whole package!
The Edge is known all over the world.

A lot of that has to do with the fact he's referred to as the Edge, how many people would be able to name drop Gordon Summer or Graham McPherson if they didn't go by the name Sting and Suggs?

As for your point about Keef. He was involved in an accident and no one is going to question the band for cancelling gigs in that situation. What's happening with Richie isn't an accident, it isn't out of the blue and it would leave a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths if they did start cancelling and **** up the whole tour on account of his drinking.

I genuinely think Jon is more concerned about being pragmatic than making money on this one (let's be fair he doesn't need it) but even if he is being a cynical money grubbing c*nt, as band leader it's his perogative, it's the music business not the music charity.
