You all were choosing your favorite sad song and many of you said Lie to Me. This seemed odd to me. Although the tune is a mellow one, I do not believe the lyrics to be depressing. It's one of the most inspiring songs to me. You've got these 2 people, one of them singing probably tommy

) and they are going through hard times and everything is shit for them. "Let it all fall down around us, if that's what's meant to be," fate or whatever has shit in store for them, but also gave them each other to mature and become stronger for it. And they can't even remember maybe how they are still in love, but STILL, they keep the faith (you're the one thing I believe) and are gonna give a big beautiful finger to the world and stick it out together (...lie to me, cause baby you're the one thing I believe).
They believe in what they've had in the past because they know how true and strong it really is. He's not only having her lie to him, but they are gonna lie to themselves about the world to in order to get out of the whole. They aren't the same Tommy and Gina (or whoever) from the past, they are older now and more settled in the world. The partying and complete spontineity and carelessness from their youths together is gone (I ain't got the winning ticket , not the one that's gonna pull us through). They can't live like that any more, but they can still live as one Sentimental, for sure, but sad, no way. Optimism in a less cliche way
