Hi guys,

I have an interestering question to you all. I know most of you love BJ, especially their old songs, because their old songs are what made them great.

My question is: If you had to decide whether to be a BJ fan based on just the Lost Highway album (ignoring all their previous albums and assuming LH is their first ever album), would you still be fan?

The reason why i ask is because for many of us, we are living in the past (Bon Jovi's past) and their old songs remind us how good they are and their old songs are the reason why we have a particular perception about them today. And i guess, its because of their old songs that many of us keep on listening to BJ and remaining loyal to their music because we know how good they are and how good theyve been, even though the LH album (in my opinion) is bringing the band DOWN.

Judging the LH album soley by itself, I would.
Now, it's NOWHERE NEAR albums like Jersey or Faith, but I still feel it's a pretty good record (minus Seat Next To You, One Step Closer, and to an extent Strangers)

If I had heard only the LH cd, i would have probably just liked them and I would be pleased to listen to them on the radio or see a clip on TV when it was on, but I'm definitely living in the past and I am a big fan since 1985. When they play their older songs in their concerts, that is when I find myself enjoying it the most. And still, every day on my i-Pod I prefer listening to theirs '80s and '90s songs than their most recent ones. So I can safely say that I wouldn't be a big fan if I was really young and LH was all I knew by them.

On the other hand, things were different then, we were most demanding in music back then, now there are a million groups out all playing the same things, and younger listeners are confused, I think. Of cource, most rock and metal bands have changed their music, even Maiden who have been playing the same old stuff for years! So our Jovis couldn't stay behind!

No way!! Easily the worst BJ record. LH has a few good tracks, but mainly itīs just full of country crap.

Well I'm one of the people who likes what Bon Jovi are today - the first album I heard was Crush, so there must be something in their current 'style' that I like, right? I think that if I'd heard Bounce as my first Bon Jovi album then I don't know if I'd have bought any more of their albums, but I like Have A Nice Day or Lost Highway enough that, had they been my first taste of Bon Jovi, I'd have probably got hooked just like I did with Crush.

This question had indeed produced some interesting replies and its a pretty controversal issue surrounding Bon Jovi and their fans today.
To be honest, Ive only listened to LH once, and thats when i first put it in my car to listen to. It hasnt been pulled out again. When I hear songs like summertime, i really feel sad because it just reveals that they are headin in the wrong direction and away from what made them a household name. I think that the only satisfactory songs on the album are make a memory and any other day. LH has good lyrics but i cant stand the way its sung. I really do think that as the band gets older, they are not getting better with time and headin in the other direction, which saddens me, because im a diehard fan and have pretty much lived in their music for a good part of my life.
I'd like to provide a comparison. Now im a diehard U2 fan as well (but more BJ diehard), and some will not agree with me, but i think its clear that U2 keeps getting better and better with time. Every album keeps getting better and better and i dont think Bono's voice is deteriorating with age. I think its the opposite. Their recent Vertigo tour was extrodinary....they kept selling out massive stadiums that hold 50k plus people. I mean in Sydney alone in 2006, they held 3 sold out concerts with each concert holding more than 80,000 people.

Dont get me wrong here, im not sayin BJ are not good, because i think BJ's live shows are as good and even better than U2's live shows, but the fact is that U2 are getting better with time, but i dont think its the same with BJ unfortunately. The reason why i say this is that if u try and benchmark LH songs with songs of KTF, NJ, TD etc, u cant compare. They are in two different leagues.
With U2, u can compare their Atomic bomb album with their earlier albums and still argue that the atomic bomb album is as good as their old albums.

Either way, BON JOVI and U2 til the day I die

No I definitely wouldn't.

I became a fan soon after Crush came out but it wasn't BECAUSE of Crush. I actually couldn't stand It's My Life when it was popular. I only became a fan after I discovered their older music.

I think the same would be true with any of their albums since then. Don't get me wrong, I do really like a lot of the newer music. But not enough that it would make me a fan on its own.

Nope. No chance. I was looking for the cd the other day, but couldn't remember where I'd put it - but then I thought "what the hell, I've got the (only) three good songs from the album on the mp3-player, so why bother try finding the cd?". So I put KTF in the record player instead!
LH is not a good cd. If it hadn't been BJ doing it, I would never have bought it. But, the hope that they someday will make a cd more respectable, and better than the last 3 ones, lingers. If it is in vein, tho, I do not know. Maybe I shall go an' listen to blur now, what about?

Hi,

Well u asked about being a FAN

Well.. the answer is no. Definitely no. They wouldnt get much attention either.

Albums like Slippery and NJ make fans.

I became a fan because I liked It's my life so I found out about their past. It's my life was a great move for BJ. Ive seen countless fans that started with that song.

Nope. I'd write them off as just another new crossover band that won't be there tomorrow.

Last few albums have made me less of a fan. I still love them but mostly cause of their older stuff. But back in the day I built what is arguably one of the larger BJ collections around. I used to buy everything and anything related to their albums, I even did that with Crush, even though I thought it was a crappy record, and to some extent with Bounce, cause I own most of the singles off Bounce. But right now, I no longer look for bootlegs, I no longer buy Japanese, UK, Australian and whatever editions and I don't buy all the singles in existence. I don't buy new shirts, no Vinyl versions... I just lost interest in them as they have lost interest in their hardcore fans.
