Realistically, what would Richie have brought to THINFS?

Speculation: At the beginning of every leg / after each break Richie had to pass a blood/piss/medical test to prove he had not fallen off the wagon. Knowing he would not pass the test, he instead stayed at home altogether.

Once again, Joysey, you have taken the post right out of my mouth.

Not only do I agree completely, it probably had as much with Jon's reason for bringing in John Shanks as anything else. The only thing I can add is that the guitar solos would have lasted a little longer than ten seconds.

Weren't the band in the middle of a leg when he quit?

Anyway, we all know that Richie had and has problem with alcohol. But let's back in end of 2012 and early 2013...

In that time, Richie was not appearing be lost in alcohol. The Craig Ferguson week, for example. It was in december of 2012. He was better than ever in that time. Remember how much we talked about this "wanted dead or alive" version??

Add, in the begin of What About Now tour, I remember clearly that we were talking about how Jon looked tired and didn't move on stage, doing the most of the set lists with songs that he plays guitar, just to stay behind the mic, etc. And almost all of us, were praising Richie, that he was in a very good shape, innovating (remeber the flying-v and the outro on Keep The Faith??)...I even remember this topic: http://www.drycounty.com/jovitalk/ar...p/t-54977.html

So, at that time, he was not drunk, we can't say this. Maybe he had a relapse during the tour break, but we don't know. And we'll never know.

I was thinking about this today too. Jon was the one looking ropey when Richie was about to leave. Remember thinking at the time that maybe resentment might be an issue. Carrying the quarterback who then possibly threw his toys out of the pram a few shows later over a bum note? Also wondered if Richie was hoping to get an Aftermath song in the set list and this possibly was a broken promise.

Random theories but could explain why turning up for work became harder and harder to do.

That's one thing I always thought should have happened. Let Richie sing a solo song. I get that it's a Jovi gig & some fans couldn't give a shit about solo stuff, but in a 2-3hr set, is one 5min song really a big ask?

They performed in Lubbock Tx on 3-17-13 and that was Richie's last show. Then it was Calgary April 2nd that he failed to show. That was a 19 day break, don't know if an "official" leg or not. Remember vacation pics of RS in Hi over the break and he even tw about coming back for the shows

As to what could have been added to THINFS - I don't think a lot. The lyrics are strong, the band is tight but what I miss and probably always will is the harmony that for me only Jon and Richie can pull off. I am hearing David stronger in the mix than ever before, maybe I just never noticed.

Thanks for clearing that up.

A 19 break could have let the doubts creep in. Christ, two days off work and I'm thinking of ways not to go back.

It would have been great to hear Every Road or Seven Years Gone with the band in an arena or stadium.

100%.

I think with AOTL having been released quite close to the WAN tour, it would have been a nice gesture to allow Richie to play a new song.

I heard Richie was promised a two song slot on the WAN tour for his new material. Supposedly Jon pulled out after Richie didn't show up for rehearsals and from there on their relationship soured and led to Richie leaving.
