I never considered this album to be Metal or anything close to it. But maybe that's because My idea of Metal is something like iron maiden or Judas Priest or Black Sabbath. Which is a category i don't consider this album to belong in, but a good album nonetheless.
It's the sound of a band still developing and obviously didn't have a very clear idea of where they wanted to head musically.
the hunger is definetly there and the guitar work is great on a lot of the songs, it's the songs themselves that suffer, because I don't really think they stand up to much.
I can see why some people love this album since it shows another side of the band they wish would have continued but this just ain't my cup of tea.
When I bought it I wanted to like it, I really did, but only wound up liking parts of the songs (a lick here, a chorus there, the solo here) never the took the actual songs on there to really be something great.
Just my opinion though.
