I think their entire trajectory could have changed had they released Walk Like a Man. As someone who was heavily listening to country radio at the time, I think that song would have been a hit because it had the music and lyrics that would have appealed to both the male and female audience and they could have hung onto the country audience they won over with Who Says. One of the biggest mistakes of their career, IMO, was not releasing that song. They don't know the gem they had. After that, they could have built on the momentum by releasing follow up singles because, pretty much, once you win the country audience, they're steadfast and loyal.

Everyday is 1 of 3 of the band's singles to hit # 1 in Canada that I see record of, it did alright here.

I'll never understand why Just Older wasn't a single

It should have been...

1. It's My Life
2. Thank You For Loving Me
3. Just Older
4. One Wild Night

1. Undivided
2. Bounce
3. Everyday

1. Have a Nice Day
2. I Want to be Loved/Last Man Standing
3. Who Says You Can't Go Home

1. Lost Highway
2. Til We Ain't Strangers Anymore
3. Whole Lot of Leavin'/Any Other Day

1. We Weren't Born to Follow
2. Superman Tonight
3. Love's the Only Rule

1. That's What the Water Made Me
2. Because We Can
3. I'm With You

1. We Don't Run
2. Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning
3. Fingerprints (radio edit)

They're not my favourite songs, but the songs I think are most single/radio friendly. Looking back, they actually weren't far off the money IMO.

Honestly though, with the exception of It's My Life and Have a Nice Day, they could've released any song in any order and they would've had the same success/failure. The obvious exception being the success of Who Says (in the US).

I really would've liked to have sees Undivided and That's What the Water Made Me as lead singles though.

It's tough because, like you said, your order isn't far from what they did and a lot of that nose dived. I go back and forth but I don't think it's the quality of the song, pop culture has just written the band off again.

I think LH was ahead of its time. I think an album like that would do better now or the songs would be more accepting now, 10 years later...

I think they haven't done too much wrong with the choice of singles. The best song isn't always the best song to be played on radio. Dry County is a hell of a song, but too long for mainstream radio.

Here's my try, not my personal favourites but what I think could have worked on radio:

1. It's My Life
2. Just Older
3. Thank You For Loving Me (ballad for the christmas season)

1. Everyday
2. Joey
3. All About Loving You

1. Have a Nice Day
2. Complicated
3. Welcome To Wherever You Are

1. Walk Like A Man
2. Lost Highway
3. 'Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore

1. Work For The Working Man
2. Superman Tonight
3. When We Were Beautiful

1. That's What the Water Made Me
2. Because We Can
3. I'm With You

1. Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning
2. I'm Your Man
3. We All Fall Down

I think, outside of America, calling it a country album was the kiss of death. Especially when it turned out to be a Bon Jovi album with a little extra twang added here and there, but they couldn't shale the tag off.

Whilst there's a massive country scene in the US to tap into, at least at the time of release it was quite the negative over here.

I think LH was years too late to be a mega hit. Instead of just dipping their toe in the water with WSYCGH, they should have had the balls to put it out then (if they wanted their country crossover to be commercially successful, which they did). With LH, were trying to be Keith Urban and Big & Rich 3-4 years after they had peaked.

That said, I'm glad they didn't... I'm glad we got HAND when we got it. HAND is the last Bon Jovi album that felt like a Bon Jovi album to me.

That was the problem they went too safe no risks were taken
