If a person could stop on their own, it's not an addiction. Rehab is not the easy way out. Drinking casually, even getting drunk on occassion does not make one an alcoholic.

What he said. We don't even know why Richie is in rehab.
He is kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Keep it private and not disclose the reason he is in there and have all this speculation or let everyone know why you are in there and totally lose your privacy on why you are there.

I agree with you on rehab is no the easy way out. The easy way out would be to just keep drinking until you die.

An addiction is like a disease. Sometimes when you think you've cured the disease (ie. Cancer), it comes back. Addiction is the same way. For all we know he could have found a "cure" for his addiction many times. Whatever his previous attempt at curing his problem was, it didn't work and now he's trying somthing different, rehab. There is nothing wrong with going to rehab. There is nothing "weak" about it. He is addressing his problem and hopinng to come out in better shape.

Been a member here for Christ knows how long, but, forgot name, and password so I had to re-register.

**** ME!

1 Tico to the best of my knowledge, hasn't touched a drink, bottle or whatever in god knows how many years. Sure, he was a bottle hugger in the past, but he beat it.

2 Jon likes a drink, but is too much of a control addict to ever let go completely unless he's in a situation where he feels absolutely safe

3 Dave....well Dave is an asshole. I could care less about him - thinks he is 'da man' but ****, don't get me started

and 4 Rich loves a drink, and a smoke. One of his party pieces was to put a shot of whatever was open, and mix it up with cranberry juice. Half the time it was great, the other half it was disgusting!

Give the guy a ****ing break. He has gotten a very public, and un-expected divorce, met someone new ( okay, not perfect but hey) ceased living with his daughter, broke up with said person, ( not of his doing) learnt Adam had cancer, coped - kind of, and then lost his Dad.

So , yeah Rich, get a life...all you had to cope with this year was separation, divorce, not having your daughter with you, tabloid shit day in day out, heart ripped by news of Adams' cancer, his death, your Moms grief, etc etc

He had the courage to say enough already; I need help to get through this. ****, if that was my life this past year, I would have given up too. Sure, he has the money to go into rehab, and that's fine. He earned it, he can do what he wants with it.

As for the self destruction, self indulgence aspect; I have a close friend who was a heroin addict, got clean, then lapsed. IT'S NOT ****ING PRETTY ! Do they want to be this way? **** NO

So, my friend, until you have watched someone throw their stomach up, cried until they have become catatonic, and tried to slice their wrists in front of you..............SHUT UP!

We call cope with life's shitty consequences in our own way, and just because you think you can manage it differently, you have been so ****ing lucky not to have had some you love disintigrate before your eyes and not been in any tenable position to help them

We all cope in different ways with the shit that is flung at us from all directions. He, Richie, has had the guidance, sense, or maybe a ****ing epiphany to realise he needed help from an external position.

****! How old are you? Get a little life experience.......

I cannot believe someone can get me SOOOO fired up!
