Default Response from Virgin radio:

FYI This was posted on Backstage by an official Virgin Representative:

(Not particularly freaky, ShaSha... we bother to read the e-mails we get!)

Just to let you guys know: we have played the Bon Jovi track - it didn't make it to our playlist, but it did receive quite a few plays on Virgin Radio.

You might know that Bon Jovi have signed to do a concert for one of our major competitors here in London. We don't really want to advertise those competitors if we can help it, so it causes us a slight problem. (It's being compered, I understand, by Daryl Denham's competitor, too, which may explain his reaction.)

But, rest assured, it IS getting airplay with us.

Hope that's cool with everyone - you can listen on-line at virginradio.co.uk/listen if you want to hear what we're all about.

Thanks for your e-mails!

James @ Virgin Radio's web team

Hi

Do you think that if we all bombard Virgin with requests for everyday they may play it???? I can't get Capital and I keep flicking through other radio stations but its just pot luck on whether I catch Everyday!!!

It would be useful to be able to stick to one station I must say. There's nothing more annoying than having to sit and listen to Hip Hop, Dance and the likes just in case Bon Jovi MAY be played.

Any tips to catch Everyday on the radio would be welcome

Thanks in advance

Louise

PS - Is Everyday being played alot on Capital cos I can tune in over the Net, just means either sitting at my computer (which is upstairs) all day or having the volume on very loud

Problem with Capital is I think u can only pick it up in & around London.. Virgin is nationwide - so their competitive line confuses me.

If we bombard Virgin with mails we'll probably get a visit from Branson himself next time - although not sure if it'd help.

I think Virgin's reply sucks, why on Earth hasn't it made it onto the playlist, I hope they are not going all radio one on us

You can listen to capital online, on their website www.capitalfm.co.uk there is a link on the top right hand side that lets you listen.

I think we all should keep emailing virgin radio until they put everday on there playlist, i cannot get capital radio. Virgin are content with playing the rubbish pop idol stuff etc, they do not know what good music is. ann

Uhm.....I think his reply was very clear while being very nice. What part confused anyone? Read it again. Bon Jovi is playing for their competitor..any business with half a brain wouldn't play Everyday right now. They will play it after the show has passed.

Don't start emailing them...it isn't going to help and you just wind up making the band look bad. Why is it so many people are slow to pick up on this?

He answered why it isn't on the play lists....and that is for NOW. You all freak out when the single is just getting out there. It will pick up in airplay eventually. If you are going to request..request in normal numbers instead of trying to flood them. This doesn't make them go "Oh we should really play this single" It strains relations with Bon Jovi management and discourages any future promotion for the band by the station.

Bleedin Guitar - u r right as far as the e-mails is concerned. This guy made an appearance to try & reduce the number of e-mails as obviously they have already made their mind up.

Concerning the competition however - Nickleback & Stereophonics r playing @ V2002 this year - this is sponsered by Virgin. However Capital FM r apparently still playing songs by these artists. By not playing BJ, Virgin is in fact alienating a large part of the market - i.e BJ fans (there r a substantial no.) who as a result r deserting Virgin & turning to Capital FM to hear the new single. This stance is certainly not beneficial to Virgin. (Why do anything to lose potential viewers? - It is only 3 mins of the 9-5 no repeat playlist). In addition they don't need to mention the show when playing it, and it is sold out anyway.

To me it sounds like a weak excuse

Mike

I agree this is a poor excuse. How can playing Everyday be advertising Capital??? It's not as if the DJ's are going to say: That's BonJovi's new song , and hey did you know their playing Wembley Arena for Capital FM!
It's complete bull!
