People tell me that too. For instance, a local radio station had a nearly-impossible-trivia question the other day: "Aside from hummingbirds, kangaroos and birds have this in common" and I was like, "Oh, that's easy, both move in only a forward direction." But I couldn't pick a kid I tested a week ago out of a line up.

Probably just enjoying their time off
Hmh... can they be called a ROCK band when only one of the members actually still rocks?

Richie should slit from the band!!!!! If musical proof wasn't enough then the above should really make him wake!
They just came off a world tour.
Are they not allowed to take a break?
They DO have lives outside the entertainment industry you know.
They have families and other interests.
The box set is being worked on.
I am sure Jon and Richie ARE writing when they can.
Just be glad this break won't be as long as the last one. Wasn't that like 5 years????
I'm sorry but that's just not rock and roll... Richie is having a break, which involves jamming with his old band, playing gigs.

The box set does not count in any way as rock and roll as it's basically another way of ripping off the fans regurgitating material, another crossroads but this time more expensive. And they won't do what they should do, which is put on completely old songs and tell the fans not to buy it, but to put on a track or two so people will buy 3 discs of what they already have just so they get those one or two songs.

Jon's not exactly taking a break, he's doing other things. Taking a break is fine when you work your arse off on tour, really busting a gut every night for 5 nights a week. Jon didn't break into a sweat on the last tour... the only person who really needs a break is Richie, and he's the only one who's acting like a musician!

What about people like Dylan? He doesn't sell out or pretend he's somebody else, and he doesn't take a break.

Steve Morse for instance, toured more or less non stop with Deep Purple for about three years, had a two month break and so toured America with his own band. that's the bug that msuicians have, that's what makes them special and peform every night... And that's after big tours in the way Bon Jovi used to do it! Jon doesn't seem to have that anymore.

Richie is doing what I'd expect somebody where he is in music to do, which is go home and keep playing. I know when I was working eight hours straight in the studio playing keybaords, the first thing I did when I got home was turn my keyboard on and start playing. It was always said the best Hendrix shows were the shows he did after the gig jamming in some bar. There's just something about rock bands which Bon Jovi with the exception of Richie just don't seem to have in the same way now.

As much as I hate to say it, I kinda agree with Mike here!

Acting, investing a football team, and going into real estate by building a multimillion dollar hotel equals acting like a musician? I bet if the same line of thought was applied to Jon, the one who thought it would be called "blind."

It seems that TICO is the one who's acting like a rock star: he's off banging models half his age, reproducing in his 50's, jet settting around the world, living in South Beach, and playing golf with Alice Cooper.

Well Mike, I don't know what to tell you here.
If you are this disappointed in the band, maybe it is time to move on to another one.

I see nothing wrong with them spending their off time however they want .
Do you not think they paid their dues? I think it is high time they spend time doing other things that interest them. As Becky pointed out, Richie isn't exactly holed up in a basement somewhere "rockin out". He is part owner in the Soul, doing some acting and investing in real estate.

As far as the box set goes, no one will know what is on it, until you hear it. So, to make judgements on it now is not fair.

I can say that about The SCORPIONS too. As I saw them 2002...man, it's almost 2 years ago...so,2 hours after the show they were i some bar jamming with the biggest Romanian band ever. That was ****ing unbelivable...you wouldn't say Klaus Meine could sing Jethro Tull. And hearing Scorpions and Phoenix perform Humble Pie songs was absolutley unbeilvable...
However, PHOENIX have a better drummer so the Scorpions guy left...I guess he was mad...or I don't know.

And in some other bar some band i don't know was paying treibute to VAN HALEN.
