How did they fail? Commercially? I don't think that matters. But how do you measeure it otherwise?

TD sounds more humorous than serious. And it ain't that "rock"

They never said they wanted to be serious. And I guess they know better than to try and write just to be classed as rock.

no matter if they said so or not, it still sounds like attempting to be so. And I don't care how they want to be rated. They are more and more pop with every album. And crush is shamlessly poppy, which is kinda cool. But TD, it's not rock and it's not pop. it's like.....nothing

why ain't it rock? I think TD rocks a lot more than crush ever will.

I don't think they 'tried' to appear as a serious rock band - back then they were a serious rock band (well generally speaking lol). Just because they moved onto doing only cheesy pop, doesn't mean they didn't rock at one point....

It's you who think they were trying to be serious. I think they weren't trying to put on a show. It's just how they felt / what they felt like doing at the moment.

Yes, you do care how they're rated. You do care of it's in the rock section or not. However, I really don't think they care.

Why does it have to have a label?! Do you keep a file in your head where your CDs are stored and need to put it in one category or another? As far as I'm concerned they could list it as popular polka songs - if I like it, I'll go for it.

u just dont get a point. and u not getting it doesnt make my opinion wrong or right, it still is an opinion. and if u insisnt being blind & not seeing what they were up to, its ur problem. and if u like it, its not a problem at all.

just compare TD with whatever they have released, it doesn't fit in. and its clearly their weakest effort (if not counting TLFR)

Funny because I thought it was you not getting the point. And funny too because I thought what didn't fit in was Bounce or Crush.

As you say it is a matter of opinion. I see a brilliant production, brilliant lyrics, brilliant music, brilliant vocals. Oh, and that regardless whether it's pop or rock too.

I think crush & bounce are natural evolution. guys are getting older and they aren't playing as tight as a band as they used to, so going more poppy works better than trying to remain as rockband.
