I see your point but imagine him just stood plainly there whilst playing......it's all about stage presence. He doesn't need to pull faces......Tico doesn't need to open his mouth like he's trying so desperately to catch flies......Dave doesn't have to scrunch his face up like a lion when he hits the high notes......Hugh doesn't have to.....oh wait, he does just freaking stand there. Nevermind.

He,he... Yeah Hugh doesn't need to just stand there, but he does!! How coooooolllll!!

Richie always used to do that, to make those weird expressions on his face while playing... He doesn't do that so much anymore.
