One of the best songs ever by Bon Jovi. It's better than anything the band's released since 1992.

I can't think of a song on Slippery that sounds more dated than EOABH. It had a pretty awesome bridge, but everything else is just somewhere between okay and good.
Same here. Decent bridge but totally overrated song to the point that I really don't quite understand it. Each to his own I guess...

Big call Iceman but each to their own.

For me, I love the song but Bon Jovi's best work is in the 90s and most of it is better than Edge of a Broken Heart. I'd even rate some stuff from the 2000s higher (Last Man Standing, Just Older, Whole Lot of Leaving etc.).

Wow, where is that quote from? It´s amazing in how much nonsense it is. Mostly because many average cock rock bands had excellent guitarists.

I picked that up on one of those Metal Sludge 20 questions with.... ages ago. But can't recall who said it. Probably some sad 'cock rock' singer. I agree with you, many of those bands had excellent players. Even so, Richie sticks out. While everyone was shredding Randy Rhoads or EVH style - after Slippery and specifically on NJ - Richie had nothing to do with that. Even say virtuosos like Vai - when he plays with DLR or Whitesnake he isn't much more creative than your average shredder. On his solo material it's a different story.

Anyhow - I don't even want to start a discussion on this - but as I said, other than Van Halen and Ozzy - 80s commercial hard rock guitar was primarily marked by Sambora and the dynamics of Slash and Izzy Stradlin. Maybe I'd add Mick Mars to this list but that's about it....

Hands Down! Especially if you grew up during that time.

The song did get some airplay on local stations here in Jersey. Radio had a little more freedom back then.

Quick Story:
In 1987 when I was a 13 / 14 year old kid, being a die-hard was a lot more different then it is today. We'll first of all, I wasn't a real die-hard until Bon Jovi continued to prove themselves with a few hit albums so in 1987 I was just a fan but we didn't have the internet or DVRs. The only way to find out info was by continuing to watch MTV, going to book stores and reading metal edge magazines, or searching through music store and talking to others..... Being that young age, I didn't have access to a car and because I was "just a fan", it took me a while to figure this one out.

When I used to hear it on the radio, I thought the song was just so good and it never even crossed my mind that it was given away to a soundtrack.

My obsession started like this...I was on the bus, on my way home from school while the song was being played on the radio. As soon as I got home, I immediately threw in my Slippery tape. As I fast forwarded through each song, I had to keep singing it in my head over and over. After going through both sides of the tape three times each, I finally accepted that it wasn't on Slippery. I then did the same exercise with the first 2 albums. When I came to the acceptance that it wasn't on any of my tapes, the real obsession began. It's not like I had access to Google. I couldn't even get to a record store to sing the song to one of the workers (that's what we had to do back then). I had to wait until me and my friends went to the mall, visited one of the record stores within, and then actually remember to ask someone about it. We'll it took another 6 months at this point because I either forgot, the guys in the store didn't know, etc.... Once I did figure it out, record stores didn't carry it. The soundtrack came and went by this point and it obviously wasn't a big seller so they no longer stocked it.

Another thing we used to do is wait for a song to be played on the radio and then record it but Edge wasn't in heavy rotation so I had no idea when it would be played next. Plus, you would always get the DJ before and after or end up missing the beginning by the time you realized what the song was and hit record.

Anyway, the long and short of it was... I finally got it at some independent music store a year later from the start of my obsession. It cost me like 20 bucks which was a lot for a 15 year old kid in 1987 /88.

Let me tell you, I played the hell out of that song. And to this very day, it's probably still my go to Bon Jovi song when I'm in the mood for some classic Bon Jovi. This usually kicks it all off for me.

Levon had a similar story but due to the above, I learned quick that it wasn't on Blaze.

We are the same age and you really took me back. Fun read! I remember Edge getting some airplay back then and I live in Tennessee.
