Yes, but only for a short time. He quit quite soon for being a musician.

From what I understand he went one semester, so even if he had plans to become a psychologist, he only took General Psychology as it's a prerequisite for all the other classes. He has no more training in psychology than any other person who's been through their Freshman year of college.

No one has said Richie's degree has been bought. But the cynical truth is that universities give out honorary degrees for exactly the reasons I mentioned. Some are legitimate honors. Some are thanks for donations. Some are to get high profile speakers or guests. That's not an insult. It's just reality.

A doctorate is actually three levels above a degree in England; BA, MA and then PhD. It is also the same in America. Universities on both sides of the Atlantic only ever give out honorary MA and PhDs as they have better clout for those reading about it in the papers. Plus, it ensures that the person they are giving it too will be suitably honored with their ego boosted enough to ensure the university get as much publicity and exposure out of the day as possible. Regardless of anything, it is still an HONORARY degree that Richie will be recieving and as such is still completely irrelevant when compared to those who actually have doctorates.

Claiming that degrees are going to have less value in the future is irrelevant; at the end of the day, a degree is still and always will be higher education, and constitutes staying in the education system longer.

I just found out about this yesterday and I go to the school!! I will be graduating the day Richie gets his degree so I am very excited!!! It is very cool that he will be honored in this way. I never knew he went to Kean so I am so excited that he will be there!!!!

As for his degree, it is just an honor. I don't think he plans on using it! It is still very cool and I can't wait!

The only thing that Richie is famous for is being married to Heather Locklear. No non-Bon Jovi fan knows him. If he accepts this mickey mouse university honourary degree then I my respect for him will be nearly as low as my respect for jon blow job. America is a fcuking joke.

Yes, that is true. Richie would have been better off being knighted.

Or giving speeches at Oxford :P

I agree it sounds stupid giving him an honorary degree but why should he turn it down? I suppose it's just one more prize for him
