no but it isn't floyd's lyrics that drew me in in the first place. it was their cohesion as a band and gilmour's playing that was the attraction. i'm not a major one for liking a song just for it's lyrics. if i wanted that kind of stimulation i'd read a poem or book. i see the point you're making but the shoe doesn't fit every foot.

I'm not saying all I need to like a song is good lyrics either, just that to make a masterpiece of a song good lyrics are a necessity.

I understand but consider that good lyrics alone is good, good music alone is good, but good lyrics AND good music together is more than very good, it's magic.

It's a 1+1=3 thing.

It's not about bringing albums out. There are background singesr who never ever recorded an album still they are better than ny britney spears or aqilera or whatever.

It's obvious that Richie has a better voice. He can hit higher and lower notes...and Jon would look like a loser without his backups live.
Anyway, I think JON is much more appropriate for a ROCK band. Jon is a great singer actually. He has that rocky something in his voice.

I agree that Richie is technically a better singer but his voice isn't that distinctive. When you hear a song by Jon or Bon Jovi you know instantly who it is and particularly in the earlier days he managed to convey so much emotion that he made corny lyrics like IBTFY sound sincere. I don't think Richie has that type of raw emotive voice, he moves you more with huge power. Richie's got a great, really powerful voice but it's not as instantly recognisable as Jon's or someone like Rod Stewart. Also at the end of the day he's not as charismatic a frontman as Jon Bon Jovi though few ever have been.

I saw Richie on the Undiscovered Soul tour though and his voice was absolutely huge, much more powerful than Jon who actually came out to sing Never Say Goodbye with him. It's my favourite concert ever but that's as much to do with seeing Richie off the leash playing massive solo's in every song as it is to do with his hugely impressive vocals.

What??? Richie is not distinctive and Jon is??? I heard hundreds of times people mixing up Aerosmith and Bon Jovi...even Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi sometimes. Def Leppard and Bon Jovi also.

I never heard anybody sounding any close to Mr. Sambora. Can you maybe name somebody...

so you never listen to songs in different lnguages?
Give me a raw scream and I prefer it to any poetry-like lyrics. Rock is not about lyrics. Ask Brian Johnson!

but this wouldn't change anything in David Gilmour's voice now would it?
And beside I think the lyrics are written by Roger Waters (not sure though but could be)so what's the point?

Anyway...we are just 2 lost sould swimming in a fishbowl year after year??? Well...read some Rilke!

Are you truly so retarded as to be this slow with pointing out something that is already caught moments afterward? The first post of this thread was extremely uninteresting...but Captain Jovi's caught my attention because I wouldn't expect that of him. Had he quoted the first post his intent would have made more sense. I also didn't read any further than the 2nd post of the thread when I replied. Since you think yourself so keen on details..you would have put that together by reading the thread. Obviously you did read the thread through, which is what is sad. I ****ed up by not reading it through, you read it through anyway and you still couldn't put it together.

Don't come at me name calling again.

For some reason a lot of times when I have listened to Undiscovered soul people(friends, family members and so on) actually asked me if it was Elton John!!!

I know what you are saying, but that wasn't my point. We haven't seen Richie's vocal abilities in quite a long time due to the fact that he hasn't released anything. Everyone thinks that Jon is going downhill rapidly, so who knows what Richie is capable of these days. There isn't much to judge him on.
