Jon says whatever is convenient for the state of the band. Without Richie, he diminishes his role. If Richie were in the band, he'd says something different.

Just watch the video from 2012 someone posted earlier in this thread, when Jon wals through his house and talks about the bands - he clearly says that Richie is responsible for the sound of the band. FF to now and compare

Jon is trying to prove that BJ would make with any other guitarist onboard. That's where I strongly disagree. I think BJ wouldn't have become that band if it hadn't been for Richie's input. I think his bluesy style made the difference so they weren't just one of the glam/hair bands, there more substance to their sound. Plus his songwriting contributions and amazing voice. As Matt said - it would be a huge difference if Richie left in 89 or 93. It's true that current recordings are far from being anyhow interesting. They're recorded by Shanks anyway.

Contrary to what I've just said, I get that EVH's and The Edge's contributions to their respective bands are more noticable. And I hope that's what Jon really wanted to say. General concert-goer rather notices that there's someone instead of The Edge than Richie. Many of them wouldn't recognize a sh*t anyway. I'd mention Brian May as a prime example of so unique style that without him, the band is not the band anymore. So on a given scale, you have Brian topping it, then maybe Slash and EDV and The Edge coming next and definitely before Richie. Even if it doesn't mean his playing has ever been unoriginal ot vague. The way Phil can't make it sound that way kinda confirms it.

It's just Jon's inferiority complex talking.
And that's his problem throughout his whole career. He always wanted to be the biggest act and the greatest frontman on the planet. But there's the Rolling Stones on the number 1 spot nobody can take away. On number 2 are U2. To me they are one of the most overrated bands of all time but somehow the critics and the public love every piece of shit that's coming from Bono and his mates.
Number 3 depends on who is currently touring or having a hit album...in one year it's ACDC, the other year it's...I don't know let's say Queen + whatever singer they are touring with and another year later it might be Bon Jovi. But Bon Jovi never were the band to be constantly considered being one of the great 3...it was always just temporary.
Well, than Jon at least wants to be the biggest act in the US or at least in his homestate. But damn it, there's the Boss who is just as loved as U2. So even in his homestate the best Jon can do is being the no. 2.
To me that leads him to his massiv talk about being the CEO of a multi-million-dollar corporation, being the leading man (pun intended) in the band and dismissing Richie's importance. It's his fight for recognition in which he makes no prisoners.

I've never followed U2 or Van Halen, so it may be ignorance on my part; but what makes either of those bands more "dependent on a lead guitarist" than Bon Jovi, or any other rock band? The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of VH is "Jump", which seems more focused on keyboards than guitar, and the few songs I've heard from U2 don't have especially defining guitar work. I mean no disrespect towards EVH or The Edge; I just can't see where their guitars contributed any more to the "sound" of those bands than Richie's did to Bon Jovi.

In addition, even if Bon Jovi wasn't dependent on the lead guitar, their sound must have been somewhat dependent on the lead guitarist, even from Jon's perspective, since he acknowledges (not for the first time) that his and Richie's voices were "the magic." If I'm not mistaken, prior to Richie leaving he had said that their voices together were magic and that blend created "the sound" of Bon Jovi; but I'd have to see if I could find the video to be sure.
Well Van Halen is the lead guitarist's band for a start which helps. Eruption is literally just Eddie being a genius. I think the Edge is more synonymous with U2 in the eyes of the world than Richie was, but I'm not sure.

For real, nobody cares about Richie, anymore?!
Then, don't blame to him for still drinking/pills.

Yovana you are such a Dick...

What you mean is "wahh no one responded to my post". Maybe it's not Richie that people don't care about.....

And yes, I'm glad that Richie is still working on a new album and look forward to hearing it. I have more hope for this than the new Bon Jovi album to be honest. I'm just not going to respond to every instagram post from this guy that you share....when there is real news to discuss, or music to hear, then it will be different....

Anyways, I responded..so hopefully that should feed your fragile ego for a while....

Have A Nice Day

Hard to respond when the video only lasts up to 24 hours on a story anyway so we couldn't see.

I don't really follow any Richie stuff anymore anyway. I loved AOTL but anything after has been awful. I'd take a new solo album, though.

Indeed. Whenever she posts I ignore that shit and close the tabs, leaving the board orange. You reply and I open the topic to see what you've posted.

I hope this doesn't feed your ego too much.

Salaam Aleikum,
