Rehab 2011 seemed fairly successful as rehabs go. He finished the TC/GH tour strong and immediately began working on AOTL.

The only American Idol show I found that he wasn’t on was the show where Jon and David were mentoring the contestants, and he was there for the band performance the next night, iirc. Is that the one you’re talking about?

I think Rdkopper is stretching it a bit as Richie was around for most of the LH stuff, and indeed one of the central themes of that promo was helping Richie through his life problems. The Unplugged situation was a disaster and I guess some just take it to mean the whole LH time period was a mess.

At iHeart he looked together and I agree Jon was off that night and for me that was the beginning of the end. I just watched it again to make sure my opinion still holds, and it does apart from realizing Jon has regressed drastically even since then.

Finally, @richiefan95, Richie does largely still have a good voice, although I don't think he uses it well in a frontman setting. When he nails it his voice is great, but he has muddled his way through plenty of performances vocally. On the other hand, his guitar playing has tanked, although I am hoping much of that was because of his uncertainty from playing with another lead player. I know it's not that, but I am hoping.

But according to the second article, he actually said it in so many words.

As I said in another post, at the Soundstage taping last October, he said that a lot of people were pissed off because they wanted to know what happened, and then he said, “And I ain’t telling.”

In a recent interview he was asked if there was a backstory, and he said, “Yeah, there’s a backstory; but I’m not going there. I have too much class for that.” I don’t have the link handy; but I can find it if anyone wants it.

JBJ (in the first interviews) also denied it was alcohol the reason... I guess they both didn't want/can delve into the reasons why?

Yeah, that's what I said earlier. Jon took a couple stabs at floating the "the guy who filled in for us last time.. " rehab connection, two interviews in a row, iirc. Then a couple days later, Richie called him out on it; and it was in Jon's next interview that the reporter asked if it was alcohol and Jon said flatly that no, it wasn't alcohol; and added that he wasn't going to add fuel to the gossip mill.
