Right, these indie bands also spent a lot of time building up a fan base and playing live, expanding their audience before that happened. RSO did none of that. Playing gigs is a form of promotion. Also I guarentee that the bands did local radio, events, or anything to get the ball rolling. They also probably invested some money in paid facebook ads etc. These things just don't go viral without someone pushing them, that's not how it works. These indie bands still have management. Are the management just sitting back and watching this happen? Of course not, they are out there actively pushing the band. RSO didn't seem to have anybody doing this. Also these indie bands are also likely to be younger bands, with a younger audience that spends much more time on facebook, etc. Not a 60 year old and his 30something year old girlfriend, who's primary audience is probably 40 - 55? That age range does not spend a lot of time on social media, especially compared to a younger audience. I'm not saying social media isn't important, it absolutely is. But you need to know your audience....

I don't need a lesson in how the internet works or how powerful it is, that's my job. Beyonce was a lot extreme. As I said the rules are not the same for an established, extremely successful artist and an act just starting out. They are two different worlds completely...
I feel like we are spinning in circles here...

Are you calling RSO underrated and blaming their failure on lack of promo?

Or are you agreeing that they do suck but could have benefitted from a little more promo?
