Richie probably knew Jon was in London because of its was making headlines in the UK. I wouldn't be surprised if Jon didn't even know Richie was there.

I've got the same feeling. Back when Bon Jovi were about to release This House Is Not For Sale suddenly Richie kept mentioning how his album was about to be released as well. Everything to generate publicity.
