Default Richie sux?

I was on a metal board where people were saying their 10 fave guitarists and I think I got to the third page before someone put Richie in at number 9...

Then the next two or three posts were like "Sambora?".. or "hahaha Richie sux man"

Most of the people were saying Slash and Van Halen and all these other metal guitarist (most of them didn't sound too impressive judging by the band they are from) but the only other guitarist that someone questioned was Cobain...

I think a lot of people underestimate Richies talent

Well, BJ are not very accepted in the metal world and since Richie belongs to BJ they don't like him, too. I don't think that they mean Richie's talent in person. But BJ sucks so Richie sucks too and can't play. They probably never really listened to BJ. It's pure pre-justice.

Let them think Richie sucks, if you ask me what I think of some metal singer or so I would say he sucks so who cares, we all like something else!

You can definitley tell they have n idea because Slash could never be compared to Richie! Van Halen yeah, I mean the guy changed the way the guitar was played but SLASH!, come off it! He did some great riffs but live he always ****s up, sounds like a drowning cat! I don't think it's that Richies underated but that he's never really done much for the guitar world. He's a class rock guitarrist but has never invented a new style but followed on guitarrists like Page, Clapton...

richie is snobbed because he is not so great.......i mean I LOVE RICHIE SAMBORA, IS MY FAVOURITE EVER because the character but even if he is such a fine guitarist i think he could not be in the olympus among with VAN HALEN MALMSTEEN NORUM LYNCH ecc ecc....he is quite a good rock/blues player nothing more.....i think he is a better singer than a guitarist.....

p.s. anyway he's a lot better than slash.....

Well he doesn't have to be the greatest guitar player ever... but to completely dismiss him and think of it as a joke to even include him in any kind of list, is really unfair I think.. especailly when you look at some of the other guitarists that people were putting on their lists and getting away with it.

I think it's because he doesn't get to show off as much in a band like BJ. As Dave said on the Crush tour DVD, BJ are a band that try to emote feeling as opposed to try and play their instruments faster than anyone else. Plus I think Richie has a good attitude towards music, he can play blues (helping BJ put feeling and diversity into their music), he sings well and his songwriting and overall contributions to this band have been amazing. Even if there are guys out there that can maybe play a little better in some guitar styles out there, you couldn't ask for a better guitar player than Richie.

a few points to consider: metal fans are genereally the most narrow minded music fans around, anything that doesn't fit into their little niche is automatically crap.

2: technical ability doesn't always negate goodness. bands like the goo goo dolls, bryan adams and even springsteen don't have really really difficult guitar parts but they evoke more emotion and enjoyment listening to them than some metal head wank stain soloing fast for 10 minutes.

if you check magazines like "total guitar" sambora is nearly always in those. he is has great respect within the guitar world....is just some f***ed up metalheads that don't know what real music is...

ask them to name some bon jovi songs. my guess is that out of the ones they name, very few will have decent solos in. i'm also betting that none of them have seen him or the band live.
