Slash or Richie? Easy. David Gilmour.

Personally, I think Buckethead is better than Slash. Plus, he plays with a KFC bucket on his head. What is better than that.

GNR need to give it up. There nothing but a cover band with the lead singer who doesnt want to give it up (or show up). Axel is destroying there legacy now.

I still think Richie is technically better than Slash (check out some of his older works like in the compilation 'Guitars that rule the world') although he seldom shows his chops lately (for whatever reason). Slash isn't a technical guitarist at all. Did anyone see Slash in the Michael Jackson tribute show sometime last year? He couldn't pull Van Halen's solo in Beat It (don't come to me and say 'he's putting his own touches on the song' crap - MJ's old guitarist (Jennifer something - can't remember her last name) can pull that solo note for note).

Both Richie and Slash have a good knack of weaving memorable melodies into their solos.

Some of GnR solos (November Rain, Sweet Child) are more 'memorable' (not to be confused with 'technically harder') than the DC solo, just like the DC solo is more 'memorable' than some of GnR solos (My Michelle for example). In order for a solo to be 'memorable', I think it has to belong in a very popular song. DC isn't popular outside of BJ fans.

Of course 'memorable' is a very subjective category, just like 'feeling' in guitar playing (in my opinion, the most overrated category to judge a guitar player's ability). Granted, 'feeling' is important (wanking just for the purpose of being a wanker isn't a good thing when playing guitar) and can be judged objectively to a small extent, but it's more of a subjective issue. Technical chops on the other hand, can be evaluated objectively.

They're both very good. Don't think I can choose, between those two. I think there just two totally different guitar-players.

That is your opinion. I love them. Whether Axl can get his act together is one thing, but some of the new songs are really good.

Your one of the few who think so then, most of the gnr fans i know are either avoiding the new stuff or cursing it.

I've got to say from the stuff I've heard of GNR's the stars of the act are/were Axl, and Slash, and the rest were basically a disposable backing band. Without Slash there, I think Axl could possiably have done it, but I don't think he has the temperment to. He comes across just too often as a whining child, and this doesn't work when it gets infront of your music. For instance, Deep Purple NEC show shows Blackmore acting similar to Axl... Things aren't right, I want to take my ball away. Although Deep Puprle had the band to deal with the problem, and Richie was just another member. I think with Slash in the band, they could pull it off when Axl's pulling a wobbely, but without him I think they'd sink. I'm largely going of a review I read in Classic Rock a few months ago, where he did a 20min speach about how screwd he was, and how he hated Slash, and the fans e.t.c. He was boo'd by his own fans! Having said that, I think I read somewhere that the recent shows were good, so mybe he's grown up a little....... I can't see this being the case though!!!!!

the only people who went to see GNR on this recent tour were the diehard fans (hence their letdown when he cancelled)... and those who remembered a once great band and wanted to see if this reincarnation paid it any justice

GNR was Axl's baby - but who'd want a father like that?
