GNR need to give it up. There nothing but a cover band with the lead singer who doesnt want to give it up (or show up). Axel is destroying there legacy now.
That is your opinion. I love them. Whether Axl can get his act together is one thing, but some of the new songs are really good.
Your one of the few who think so then, most of the gnr fans i know are either avoiding the new stuff or cursing it.
He sold out a lot of places in Europe and here, so he has fans.

GNR was Axl's baby - but who'd want a father like that?
I saw them and they rocked. Even the critics gave him credit for MSG and we know how much they love him. I agree, he is a baby, but this new band has potential. Buckethead is as good if not better than Slash.

Slash isn't a technical guitarist at all. Did anyone see Slash in the Michael Jackson tribute show sometime last year? He couldn't pull Van Halen's solo in Beat It (don't come to me and say 'he's putting his own touches on the song' crap - MJ's old guitarist (Jennifer something - can't remember her last name) can pull that solo note for note).
I think Slash is putting his own touches on the song. Jennifer Batten (I think that was her last name...) was restricted to the fact that she was just a hired guitarplayer. So she was being told what to play. Michael Jackson also played Black Or White with Slash during that Tribute concert, and Slash threw in some killer riffs at the end. I liked that and thought that they should have recorded it on the Dangerous album.
When Slash played Beat It I'm sure he would be able to play that guitar solo from Van Halen, but he didn't. If he would have done that I think no one would have liked it. Van Halen once was a great guitarplayer, and Slash was or is. They shouldn't start copying their solo's. So I think that's the reason why Slash didn't play exact the same solo.

But back to the fact if Slash is better as Richie better. Slash really made some memorable guitar solo's like The solo from Sweet Child O' Mine and the end from November Rain. Technically the solo from Sweet Child is very great. The intro from Sweet Child O' Mine is also technically great. Coma is also one of the most complex songs ever, the chord pattern changes everytime.

So I think Slash is the one with the most memorable riffs and solo's.
Songs like Sweet Child O' Mine, November Rain and Estranged are all songs with great guitar solo's which you just always will remember.

But, Slash has always played the same way. He has never played acoustic stuff, except for Patience, so we'll never really know how that will sound. Richie has played more different guitars, and has played more acoustic stuff.

Some people here complain about the fact that we do not know how good Slash is because we haven't heared him for about 8 years.
But Richie hasn't played a serious guitar solo for about 6 years either. The last real cool guitar solo from Richie is the one in My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms. With the exception of Next 100 Years and Older.
(Damned is a cool song, but IMO a copy from the Keep The Faith guitar solo. ) Richie should start playing more serious guitar solo's, instead of the simple (but sometimes effective) guitar solo's...

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

This was shown last night in England (ITV late). I only caught the last 30 mins (of which I turned of as soon as he did Billy Jean, and it became really pop orientated), but got a nice suprise at 12:30 after just coming of the computer discussing Slash, to turn on the TV and see the guy playing power chords and looking increadibly Rock 'n' Roll!!!!! I agree though, the solo in Beat it was apauling, but then again, I'd say that there are very few guitarests in the world who can play an Eddie special (i.e including Sambora!).

In gnr slash was given a lot of space that richie wasn`t in bon jovi.
An example the videos. In a guitar solo slash was always filmed, wherever he can play,in the piano in the sea .And in bon jovi the solos were very short and sometimes he wasnt even filmed like missunderstod,IML,etc
Thats why more people know slash and talk about him as he were a great
guitarrist.(and he is not)just mediocre with a lot of propaganda in mtv
so I think richie is better because of his tecnicks and guitar abilities.(better than slash ones)

Aha, I know the evil Shredder is gonna challange me a ninja turtle!

You are right with the last name. But I seriously doubt Slash can pull that solo note for note, and there is nothing wrong with being faithful with the original tune. Some people will prefer him to stick to the original, some will prefer him doing his own thing. My point is: Slash is not a technical guitarist, otherwise he would've pulled Eddie's solo.

And Van Halen IS still a great guitar player. I know he hasn't released anything after all the soap opera drama crap, but that doesn't take away anything from his playing at all. I believe he can do extraordinary things on guitar, if he can get over all this lead singer nonsense.

Though I really like both Richie and Slash, I'd obviously have to say Richie. The main reason being that I like Bon Jovi more than G N' R. Also, Richie's solo albums were very good and it shows that he is a great song writer. Slash has Slash's Snakepit but it's nowhere near as good a Richie. But they are actually quite similar, both of them like the blues side of rock, and both of them are very talented guitarists, they don't just play one style of guitar like some of the rockers in the 80's.
