Default To Becky & Walrus

>>>Becky says: I'm not exactly sure how having stage front tickets or owning CDs makes anyone a more reliable source of information.

>>>The Walrus says: ….. and now he's some kinda expert?

I have worked in the music industry 25 years and professionally toured 15 years, including Nationally. Both my parents are also master musicians but in very different fields of musical expertise. Doesn't mean I know anymore than the next person in the biz, but maybe a few things to share. Also, just because I don’t hang out at band forums (Becky with 11,000+ posts….gee that’s a bunch girl and Walrus with 5,000+ posts), doesn’t mean that I don’t know anything or have not been involved following a particular band for many years, with some of these bands I know or work with personally.

>>>The Walrus says: prior to a week ago this guy didn't own any Bon Jovi albums

When I wrote my first "off the cuff" Bon Jovi review, still suffering from a killer concert and a 11 hour marathon party (with this "off the cuff" review posted only at this site but not my final published review, per the next post), I stated that I had not bought any Bon Jovi albums. I got to thinking after I wrote this, that Bon Jovi was too great a band in the 80's for me to have not purchased some of their albums, or my father purchased them, who worked 42 years in the music business. Also, I am a big fan of world renowned guitarist Richie Sambora, have met him 4 times, and formally studied his work, since Richie's early days. All us rock/blue-rock guitarists "borrow" licks and riffs from each other, particularly until we develop our own style and signature.

So I dragged out my boxes of vinyl LP's and sure enough there was Slippery and NJersey, and both master pressings. They’re in beautiful condition – Wonder what they are worth at a trade show? My father (RIP) must have got them for me, because no way I could have afforded master LP's used for radio station airplay back in the ‘80’s.

So, sorry for the misstatement. I guess we have all killed a few brain cells over the last 20 years, hun.

>>>The Walrus says: And you've got all that since the Oklahoma show last week?

What the hell are you talking about bro. I have been collecting Bon Jovi material for over 15 years. I have great A/V collections of some rock bands I've never even watched, yet. I did buy HAND last week, and pulled down three HAND concert full videos, if that makes you feel better. I also have some great and rare BJovi (and Richie solo) studio and in (radio) studio acoustical performances by Jon and Richie that are killer.

I have never purchased very many music albums over my lifetime. They are two-dimensional, and I don’t really enjoy them. Music is an auditory AND visual experience, which accounts for why I have attended over 150 concerts, (with the severe tinnitus to prove it, ugg) and have a server with 14 hard-disks full of music videos from every great rock group from the ’60 to current, INCLUDING Bon Jovi.

Bon Jovi "Have a Nice Day" World Tour
Second Tour Leg, Opening Night
Ford Center, Oklahoma City
Saturday, January 14, 2006
Review By RockMusic, Steve S - 01.16.06

Last night was my first time to see Bon Jovi live despite attending over 150 concerts. They did not disappoint. Ticket prices for the concert, including fees, were $98.85 for the floor, first, and second level, and $58.85 for the third level. To my surprise, I had great seats just three rows off stage left-front, purchased the day before the concert.

The Oklahoma City Ford Center is a 1st class arena and a top 10 U.S. booking venue, as to revenue, per Pollstar. It opened June 2002 at a cost of $89 million and, for end-stage concerts, holds 19,200. After a good local opening act named Hollow, Bon Jovi hit the stage at 8:35 p.m. to a deafening roar by the sold out crowd. Bon Jovi’s sold out concert attendance was one of the largest, for a veteran rock act, since the Center opened. World legendary superstar rock acts like Motley Crue, Billy Idol with Steve Stevens, Van Halen, Eric Clapton, and ZZ Top, all paled in attendance comparison.

I was extremely impressed with the quality of the concert that Bon Jovi delivered. Alright, I was jaw hit the floor shocked. Without exception, Bon Jovi are world-class musicians that proved they can still deliver a premier rock concert product, and greatly care about their fans. All members looked fantastic, sounded great, had great synergistic chemistry, all performed songs were tight, and the band did a super job working the crowd into a full-blown frenzy.

Bon Jovi’s stage setup was also great. It had a clean Vegas techno look to it. The moveable overhead-stage high definition video screen was the largest I’ve ever seen at a concert. The clarity, quality, and numerous camera angles shooting the entire live concert were incredible. Without question, Bon Jovi set the standard for other National touring acts, when it comes to a big screen live concert production. It elevated the enjoyment of attending a large venue concert to a whole new level.

Bon Jovi played a diverse mix of both new material from their “Have a Nice Day” album, along with time honored classics spanning their 22 year career. The huge crowd in attendance soaked up the massive energy that Bon Jovi delivered for 2+ hours and threw it right back at them in a thunderous wave of support and non-stop enthusiasm. Even after the concert, when everyone was walking out of the arena, the enthusiasm and roar of the crowd was deafening. The huge crowd spilled out into the closed traffic street in front of the Ford Center, lined with waiting limos, and just keep partying. No one wanted to leave after such a high energy and incredible concert. Luckily, just two blocks from the Ford Center is a large number of clubs and eateries that the massive crowd descended upon and partied until the wee hours of the morning.

To be honest, other than legendary guitarist Richie Sambora, I wasn’t a big Bon Jovi fan before seeing them live last night. Wow, did they change my mind in 2 short hours. As a 15+ year professional rock/blues-rock touring musician, I must state that there is so much more to delivering a highly memorable concert experience, to the fans, than being a great band. It also requires a comfortable, pleasurable, and well managed venue; a great stage setup, sound, and visual experience; and most importantly, the ability of each band member to connect with the audience at an inner level, both individually and synergistically as a group. The defining factor is, great musicians’ don’t play their instrument(s), or even think about it - they channel from their soul. Bon Jovi’s concert at the Ford Center delivered all this and more.

Thanks guys, don’t ever let rock 'n' roll die. ~ ~

I'm not questioning your knowledge of music or the business but I would like to know where and when this supposed taping of Leno was done and when the hell it aired??? There is no way this got done and no one and I mean no one in the FC saw it or knows about it dude. Sorry, you need to go back and check your tape and see what it was done for, because it wasn't Leno for this tour unless they taped a show that never got aired which is doubtful.

Well, you know, when you were questioned about that supposed Jay Leno performance, you went on to list these ITEMS and TICKETS as your credentials for knowing what you're talking about. I posted a question on Backstage to see if anyone had seen this alleged Jay Leno taping and over 200 views in, no one has seen it. You STILL haven't told us this inside scoop you're alluding to. And since you've taken so long, you've put doubt on anything you say anyway. I really don't mean that to sound bitchy. I hate that the written word can be meant one way and read the other. So far your posts just sound like another Sambora fan who thinks Richie is the poor abused guitarist.

And Rock Music continues to brag about how many concerts he's been to, posted his review for the 13th time since he's registered, and yet, he hasn't answered the question about the alleged Leno taping/incident for HAND.
Why??
aorry dude, I hope your next post is either explaining what the Leno thing is/was or an apology for the missinformation.
And I was beggining to like you.

Wow, that's a whopping 921 megabytes of stuff, almost 2 full CDs!

Quit dropping the BS. It's pathetic.

Agreed. 7 Gb is NOT something to brag about and doesn't really help your case.

Especially when the moron says he has 7 gigabits. A bit is about 0.125 bytes...
