I think just the outro to the song in general is great. That's the whole reason I love the song!

I heard it on this forum actually, cant remember who said it though. The solo is pretty much the same in all the live performances of it I've heard which leads me to believe its not just Richie messing around and that it was a properly written solo for the song.

I remember reading something about it on this forum too, a long time ago. Somebody said it was cut because they wanted to make it a single.

It'd be strange to cut it from the album track though...?

Look at Dry County - the radio edit cut a lot of the second solo out, the intro and outro and even an entire pre-chorus but all were kept in the album version.
