Peter Collins did These Days to get his name out. He much fancied newer bands with a modern sound and fresh approach. It's why he produced so many relatively unknown acts. The Bon Jovi approach of writing hits instead of just good songs, wasn't really what he was into.

That's kind of right, the man liked a challenge and he wasn't easy to work with, no matter who you were. Naturally, newer bands found that less intimidating.
Bizarrely, Jon said in a TV interview in Asia around 95/96 that it was the Suicidal Tendencies record that made him and Richie pick Collins. I always found that statement bizarre to say the least, very much doubt they ever listened to Suicidal Tendencies.
However, I'm pretty sure I read on some other forum or was told that it was very much Hugh McDonald who recommended him and who had facilitated the introduction, they had worked together a few years before on Alice Cooper's Hey Stoopid (also one of my favourite Alice records). That was Hugh's chance to make it official, and he blew it for 20 years
