Nope.

Take a look at the Ramones or Sex Pistols. They sold shit, but they are two of the most influential bands ever.

It's about influencing other artists, not normal people.

So, influence has to show up in the music? I don't think so, and I don't think you're giving Jovi the credit they deserve.

How many rock bands today do you think in the 80's or 90's were sat listening to Livin On A Prayer or Wanted, and THAT'S what made them want to pick up the guitar or sing in the first place. That's the grass roots influence. And I believe there might be a lot more of it than you would imagine.

If ROHF was about influence, KISS should've been there a long time ago. It's hard to find an 80s band (or any rock band for that matter) who haven't been influenced by KISS. And they're not shy to tell it to people. Look at Pantera, Anthrax, Mötley Crüe, Limp Bizkit, Lordi, Garth Brooks, Lenny Kravitz, Nirvana, Soundgarden... the list goes on. If that's not an influence on rock music, I don't know what is.

I don't consider the ROHF to be really much more than a critics' playground. And I won't change my mind even if they'd induct KISS, Bon Jovi and Def Leppard (won't happen), they're still a bunch of wankers.

You have a good point there. Sadly, if we talk about the HOF, it's not enough.
Bon Jovi didn't make a cultural impact. They didn't change the music scene. The only peers who should join are Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard (and maybe Quiet Riot). Also Bon Jovi didn't influence enough popular bands.
It's really the point of the HOF.

Anyway, the people behind the HOF hate Bon Jovi and 80s Hard Rock in general. They were really pissed when they had to induct Van Halen, so why do you think Bon Jovi will get in?

The HOF is a joke. Tell me the day they induct Kiss, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, Rainbow, and I will take it more serious.

Best regards.

As I said earlier in this thread, the Hall Of Fame just can't be taken seriously when they haven't inducted Alice Cooper of all people

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame May Change Induction Rules
January 4, 2010 5:35 p.m. by Chris Bosman

Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a lot of notable snubs, from KISS to Todd Rundgren, from Rush to Cheap Trick, and countless others. Somehow Jann Wenner, the co-founder and publisher of Rolling Stone and the Hall of Fame's head honcho, believes that he can't find enough quality groups to make the Hall of Fame candidates over the next few years interesting.

Instead of rectifying the various snubs, Wenner and the Hall's latest idea is to change the rules for induction into the Hall. Currently the rules state that a band's first album has to have been released a minimum of 25 years ago to be eligible, but the Hall is considering reducing that number to 20, which would allow in groups like Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Guns N Roses and Nirvana, among others.

It seems a bit ridiculous to be considering changing the rules when they are so many influential rock and roll artists still left out of the Hall, but it seems Wenner and the Hall are more concerned with grabbing viewers for the induction ceremony, younger viewers who are emotional invested in the aforementioned bands, than actually rectify the problem of Chubby Checker not being in the Hall. While I love Green Day, I do not think they deserve to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Sure, American Idiot is proven and probably will continue to prove a very influential album, but Green Day in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame? I mean, come on..... Anyway, after reading all these posts, I've decided I don't really care who the hell is inducted. Run DMC? Theyre a ****in rap group. Madonna? Very Nice.

The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame isn't about rock & roll at all anymore when it comes to the music genre. If that were true only the likes of Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis ought to be inducted. It nowadays is merely a statement to the world that these artists are considered to be the most influential artists in the world. Run DMC and Madonna are responsible for what is on todays radio for what they created 20 years ago. Whether you like it or not, it's true. Every pop star still wants to be as big as Madonna, and every hip hop artist has a lot of respect for what Run DMC has done. Does anyone who wants Bon Jovi to be in there think that there's any band nowadays that'll say "Yeah, I want to be as big as Bon Jovi and sing cheesy songs about Highways and Homes" ?

I'm sure there's artists that should've been inducted years ago, but Bon Jovi surely isn't responsible for any rock music that's been created the past 15 years. Rock music in the way of uplifting chorusses and good guitarsolo's has changed into bands like Green Day performing average rock songs who many people suddenly consider brilliant. It'll only be when the same music Bon Jovi used to make late eighties, early nineties that people will consider them in the same league as U2. If that'll happen, Bon Jovi can say they've had an impact on today's music scene.

With all this I'm not saying that any music Bon Jovi has made the past 25 years hasn't been good, and if I'd ever become big with my band I'd surely mention Bon Jovi as a big influence, but I'd also feel the need to defend myself over that as most people remember Bon Jovi for It's My Life and Have A Nice Day nowadays instead of proper rockers like Keep The Faith or Livin' On A Prayer.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

i still have hope that one day, one day sometime way in the future - bon jovi will be inducted. then again, i'm an optimist.

either way, i disagree with anyone who claims they don't belong there. sure, we all have criticisms but come on, they're one of the greatest bands in history - no question. they wouldn't be out of place in that company.
