The Who were one of the bands that helped define rock as we know it today, so they should definitely be in there before U2.

Bruce Springsteen is not a huge act over here, don't get me wrong he can still sell enough tickets for stadium shows but he's not someone people in the UK have ever totally taken to. He does nothing for me personally although I can see the massive influence he's had on Jon.

I love Van Halen but they are not big over here. I saw a short article recently when Eddie left his wife and they were described as a band who had some popularity in the late 70's and early 80's. The British public didn't take to Van Hagar which was very middle of the road American arena rock. I personally liked both versions of the band.

I'm pleased Bon Jovi made it into the top 10 although why there always has to be a snide comment whenever they appear in these lists is beyond me. Surely after selling over 100,000,000 albums and staying around as long as they have they deserve a modicum of respect. There was a program a couple of years ago about the history of metal and Mick Wall was commenting on Stairway To Heaven and how amazing the lyrics were. He said that Plant had written the song at the age of 17 or 19 (A young age anyway!) and that Jon Bon Jovi could never write something this good as long as he lived. Why did he feel the need to bring Jon into it? There are hundreds of worse lyricists in rock music than Jon Bon Jovi but it's always Jon or Bon Jovi who get the criticism. All this and Bon Jovi probably helped sell more copies of his crap magazine (Kerrang!) than pretty much any other band in the late 80's and early 90's.

Ok they're not as important an artist as Hendrix, I get that but neither are GN'R or U2 or AC/DC, Bon Jovi deserve to be on that list every bit as much as those guys.

I'm quite suprised to see that Metallica hasn't entered the top 10. It's one of those sorts of lists Metallica will get onto. However, I would have replaced Nirvana or Guns N' Roses with them, they're still a great live act.

Nirvana will make every list imaginable. I would bet good money, had Kurt Cobain not blown his head off, they wouldn't. His shitty band became immortal when he became a martyr for killing himself.

Guns N' Roses, though I LOVE them, wouldn't be on the list if they were still around. It's a tragedy that because of personal differences and egos, they didn't last longer, but there's nothing about them that makes them any more pioneering or special than Bon Jovi or AC/DC.

It's a poll done on Planet Rock which is a UK radio station that plays all rock and Heavy Metal. Bruce dosen't really fall in to that category!

I couldn't agree with you more. Nirvana were a moderately succesfull band until he killed himself. If he were still around today they would be no bigger than Pearl Jam are.
I also never understand why G N R do so well in these things. They made a handful of albums before disappearing up there own back sides! And they made an awful lot of cover versions for such a so called 'influential' band.
