Some of us would love to hear rare songs played live because we know pretty much everything they ever put out since the 1st album they ever released, because we probably have seen them live several times and seen Prayer being played in every single one of their shows. I can not imagine a show that is missing Prayer from its setlist. Regardless of it being one of my favourites, if I'm asked what song I'd like to hear, Prayer is not on my mind because it's a given.
Being a fan doesn't mean having your critical judgement at a zero level. It certainly doesn't mean you have to enjoy every single thing they put out (or any other band, writer or painter who have been around for as long as they have, for that matter). It's a natural thing to the human being to have opinions over different things in life. I don't consider myself less of a fan because I don't like a particular performance or song, as I don't consider someone a bigger fan than me just because they (say they) like everything. That's possible (?) but that sounds fake to me.
I don't like a lot of the stuff they released, especially in recent years, but you still see me spend big bucks to see them, including travelling to other countries and spending hours queueing or whatever. I'm not stuck in their 80's or 90's sound, I appreciate and enjoy many different kinds of music. I just think some of their latest stuff is weak. Doesn't mean I'm not a fan.
