Default Shinedown trying to cover Bon Jovi acoustically

Interesting. Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers talks about the recoding of an acoustic covers album. Apparently they wanted to cover a Bon Jovi song, too, but we probably won't hear that anytime soon...

Quote:
ThisIsNotAScene: Well, one other thing I wanted to talk to you about was the acoustic covers… What's happening, and what's the status with that?

Zach: We are trying to figure it out right now. It should be all cleared up. At first it was going to come out, and it was going to be no problem. We were going to do it, film it, release it. We were going to film it really cheaply, but then we got Darren Doane, the guy who directs all our videos, to do it, so it looks really cool, sounds really cool, and then we wanted to release it as an album too. That's when you get into publishing, you have to get permission, and two of the artists were, like, "We don't like anyone covering our songs." I'm not going to say who. BON JOVI [laughs], and so that was kind of that. It's going to come out. It will be out soon.

Unless it be a Glee version.

That would have been good to hear. I've seen Shinedown live and have their albums, pretty decent band. Shame it may not happen.

Don't know why Bon Jovi should be afraid of bands covering them because Bon Jovi do A LOT of covers live. I know it's different to in the studio but still...

It might actually improve their credibility if somebody covered one of their songs!

Shinedown's singer should replace Jon for future tours.

I doubt if it's anything to do with being afraid - maybe Jon just doesn't like Shinedown. He refused to let The Darkness cover Prayer (and thank god) because he thought they sucked.

For those who say JBJ is all about the money, an artist covering one of theirs and making it a hit could provide a lot of money for the band, but they don't generally endorse it.

I can think of three country covers off the top of my head:

Billy Hoffman: I Want You
Chris Ledoux: Bang a Drum
Montgomery Gentry: Wanted

There was also a Japanese cover of Next 100 Years if memory serves me correctly. And there's a whole tribute album called Covered Dead or Alive with the likes of Jani Lane and other "hair band" artists. There's also a lullaby CD of covers.

Hinder covered a few years back (pretty decently actually) so I don't think it was out of fear.

Anastacia covers Bad name on her last album, she's a big star but i'd assume the two know each other, having shared the stage a few times, and Richie appearing on a track with her. I think it's just personal preference, like i'm sure if Daughtry wanted to cover a song Jon would have no problem.
Just like you rarely see Jovi songs appearing on all those endless ''ultimate rock classics blah blah'' etc compilations despite a lot of their 80s peers being on them, even if it might give them wider exposure as I think Jon feels it cheapens their work/he want's to stay 'current' etc. Jon can be picky with his own songs if he wants to for various reasons. Lending the rights out to do Guitar hero or Glee for example was a clear marketing decision.

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."
