How could they really?

The shows would either be postponed or cancelled - it should be no different (and rightly so) if Richie can't play too.
Very good point!!!
However, today it's Richie, and I'm with Becky. Cancelling show isn't easy.
Lot's of money in it, and everybody now that capitalism and money rules the world... as sad as that is!
I don't know all about the Hull show, but wasn't that partly about BJ not being able to cancel it???

Personally I believe BJ can play some shows without Richie AS LONG AS we know he's coming back. A BJ without Richie is hard to imagene.
Everybody knows how importaint Richie are to BJ, they're a guitarband lol

Bon Jovi without Alec = still Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi without David = still Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi without Tico = still Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi without Richie = still Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi without Jon = NO Bon Jovi

I think they should play shows without Richie.

the band should stick together no matter what. so, IMO, they should wait for Richie. this is the time where the band should be with him.

Health is obviously the highest priority, so whatever it takes in that respect.

However, if the band can be spared for a day or two i'd say that cancelling the show is not the best way to show respect to Richie or the music and hell, is a chance for collaboration. I wouldn't complain if say, Steven Van Zandt were to fill the slot for a show.

Do you think Richie may have discussed all this with Jon before entering rehab? Maybe he wanted to put off going into rehab and Jon has told him to get himself better first and foremost, and they will use a replacement for Richie while he gets better?
I would rather see Richie get better and come back healthier and fitter than ignore the fact that he needed help, and end up in a much worse way.

It's obvious from the reactions to the PR show (that I've read), that that ain't true.

Temporarily, maybe. Permananently, no way. It just would'nt be the same without Richie.

If Richie left (very unlikely - I hope) then yeah, I think Jon should carry on definately (And would) but as a solo artist (Hopefully with Tico and Dave) But not as Bon Jovi the band.

For me it would be like Gn'R without Slash, or Led Zeppelin without Jimmy Page, or Aerosmith without Joe Perry, the list goes on.

EDIT: And I hope it never happens.

That is my thought as well. I highly doubt that Richie just sprung this on the band without any prior notice or consideration for the new album and promo obligations.

To answer the OP's question, I think Bon Jovi should continue to meet all previous obligations with or without Richie. IMO I would not buy a ticket to a Bon Jovi concert if I knew Richie was not going to be there. I would however go to a Bon Jovi concert if I already purchased tickets and made arrangements to go and later found out Richie wouldn't be there.

If we're talking long term, Bon Jovi without Richie Sambora = JBJ solo.
