If it works and adds to the value of the song then I'm all for it and like everybody has said, I Wanna Be Loved is a good example of that. I also don't mind it at all on Complicated because unless you knew what you were listening for, it would just pass you by.

I do agree slightly that it can be improperly used as a "signature sound" and the Bounce album is a classic example. Way too much use of the talk-box on that album. In those cases it just reaked of limited imagionation. How can we make this song a bit more interesting , what can we add here, how do we make it more origional? Oh, lets put the talk-box in.

Used well it can add so much to a song. Overly used it can destroy an album. Less is deinitely more.

Aloha !

Yes. And when they're getting rid of it, get rid of the same pattern in each song as well. It's My Life, Bounce, Have A Nice Day, Complicated and I Wanna Be Loved all sound similar because of the talkbox being used in the same way.

Salaam Aleikum,

Lol it probably wouldnt be a jovi album without the talkbox
Just like Bon Jovi, 7800°, New Jersey, Keep The Faith, and the US Version of These Days aren't real BJ albums? As opposed to Crush and Bounce? Yeah.

There is no talk box in Have A Nice Day.

And I don't think it's especially hairmetal either - Peter Frampton anyone? But I do agree they've been overdoing it on the Bounce record.

indeed.

the song structures of these songs are all very similar. especially the, i dont know the technical way to describe it, but when the music cuts out and theres a double smash of the bass toms and Jon saying the name of the song as in the end of its my life style.

isnt nessarily a bad thing always, as sometimes i just want to listen to 'typical' old skool jovi and put my mind on autopilot. Im not looking for jovi to put out the next bohemium rhpasedy.

but it would be nice if they did try something more complex.. novacine shows a glimmer of something and dry county, my guitar lies bleeding and next 100 years all come close to breaking the typical mould of a bon jovi song.

and as for the talk box, i think if we'r gonna hear it again i would like to hear more of a riff like prayer or something more exciting pete frampton style than the itsmylife i wannabeloved style.

The talkbox need a long rest.
They don't need it to create a hit, and they for sure don't need it to stick to their sound.

A decent guitar solo thats all I'm asking for.

Yup, and it takes away from the songs. I really like a lot of songs on HAND, but the talk box does ruin them for me a bit because of the fact that it makes them sound the same. I am getting a bit sick of it myself.

I only hear it on two of the tracks on Hand, I wanna be Loved and Complicated.
Which others?

if he surprised us and ripped out a great talkbox solo like on the 'let's make it baby' demo or 'bad medicine' in his 98 shows then it'd be a welcome change. but, as supersonic noted, it's used in the same way all the time to beef up a riff. when the songs are played live it just kills the sound dead due to the impossibility of creating that same power on stage.

I should have explained myself better. It makes those few songs on HAND sound too much like their previous stuff. I don't want to see BJ get stuck in that rut where a lot of their stuff sounds the same.

Richie should lay off the talkbox for the next 2 albums.
