the bit in bold...who said that? jon? if so jon is a complete pleb! lol he is one of europes biggest A&R men and was great at his job, im not sure what he actually has to do with many artits these days but he didnt make his money by doing nothing

this thread is actually quite funny cos i walked in last night on my brother shouting at mummy saying how that simaon was a prat and he knows nothing and my mum was just trying to ignore him lol, she was watching idol and bro was saying how he could do better than simon. but thats stupid, this man was who everyone wanted to know, he was THE number to have in ur phonebook, he had all the contacts you needed and if you broke with him you were going to make money, still are i guess

as i said the man does his joba nd does t ****ign well at that. the reason he was on pop idol in the 1st place is cos of how succesful he is. he might not have been as well known as pete waterman before the show mainly because of watermans involvement with kylie and his songwriting but the fact that simon is actually more succesful than pete says alot about him.

not alot of people can do his job. u have to realise that not every great artist can be sold so they cant be signed. simon is one of the best people at realising who he can sell and who cant. i know a bit more about the industry than most people on here and could probably have a decent whack at deciding who to sign and not sign but in the end but that doesnt mean i would sign a succesful band and alot of people with even less knowledge than myself r the ones harping on about how evil he is and how crap the charts are these days.

The funny thing is that in 1982 Jon was refused in a record deal by every single A&R guy out there. Every single one. Then he got a radio hit as an unsigned artist and all those A&R men, who refused him before, knocked on his door themselves.

Only because of Jon's persistence and determination we have Bon Jovi right now.

The point I want to make is: How many talented guys like Jon were never given a chance to have a career and were turned down to sign the likes of Westlife? We will never know. Because we are only informed about success stories of Simon and people of his ilk.

How many times Simon was wrong, we have no idea. How many perspective Bon Jovis people like Simon killed for the sake of creating here today gone tomorrow artists, we will never know.

It seems to me that guys like Simon are only good at creating 1-2 hit wonders. Basically they are good at earning fast money. They are not that good at looking for real talents. Moreover, often they kill real talent to earn fast money.

trust me santa fe u dont last long as an A&R man if ur not succesful. signing a band and tryign to break them runs in at a minimum £200,000 and its usually alot more so making mistakes isnt easy to ignore.

and you're just proving my point that not everyone could do his job. would you have signed westlife? no "because it's not real music" maybe not breaking any new ground music wise but they're one of the most succesful boybands ever and the difference between simon and most other people is that he realises that they are a great product whereas everyone else has this daft idea of artistic integrity and not selling out.

it's called the music INDUSTRY for a reason. whats the point of doing it to make a loss?
