Not even close, I get lazy and cut corners. It's only natural. Anyway, you would be surprised what big stars still use vocal coaches.

Agreed, he could sing the chorus on a These Days a lot better than " there ain't a ladder on.........................the............,streets ..." sounds weird, he could put out like he did in these days tour when he wasn't confident with his voice. (Like he did here on the first chorus http://youtu.be/WGJwBPgqxWA)

There are a lot of other things he could do to sound better. He's totally being lazy these days.

I was watching, on YouTube, the concert Jon did with Bruce, SSJ, and others back in '03

Jon's voice is just as shot as it is today. Something must have happened between '99 and '02 to make him do TLFR. That album was definately done or certain hit songs were definately chosen in order for him to perform them live. Look at all the songs on that album. They are the ones we hardly hear live anymore. Or when we do, we wish we didn't.

The question is, what happened? And when did it happen?

Listen to Jon sing of a few of those tracks from the link above. His voice sounds no different from today.

When I say that Jon can't sing anymore I never though that he is singing this bad.

Please, retire, Jon.

Since Always was played in the encore after two hours of singing, it is no surprise that his voice was shot.

I wonder if Jon hears his voice through his ear monitors or if he just hears the instruments. In the concert I went to there was such a wall of sound around the voice--strip it away and I guess you'd probably get something like this.

They do have a voice coach on the road, Richie said so in several interviews (I got to do some research if anyone cares). But I don't know if it's that guy:

What I don't understand about Jon's voice is how he can be so out of breath after just a couple of songs although he doesn't run on the stage or do stunts anymore... What I mean is, when you have the right technique, you don't become so breathless so quickly, especially when all you do is singing as opposed to singing + dancing/running which is a lot more tiring.

He has a vocal coach, and he has had several. Some have travelled with him on tour, I know, because I've met one and went drinking with him. I don't think he's still with the band, though, his techniques weren't really effective (I found out later). I think Jon uses Katie Agresta nowadays.

And if your voice is gone, it's gone. You can learn a new way of singing, but your voice will never be the same. You might lose your range or your timbre or your sound, or all of them. And age doesn't help, if you don't work on your voice.

You can't sing if you don't hear your own voice. So, most likely it's Jon vocals pretty high and then whatever instrument he feels he need the most. Some singers prefer guitars, some keyboards, some even bass. But it's vocals first, then instruments.

Eric Martin from Mr. Big wants to hear clean guitars, no matter what song they're playing, so Paul Gilberts guitar is split before the amps and effects and goes straigh into Eric's in-ear monitors.

So, there's no rule to it, but it's always own vocals first, then your main instruments (what ever you feel you need) and then the rest.

His voice as we knew it is gone and can't be restored, now he's got to sing his old songs in a different key/tone/vocal range/whatever you may call it... or stop singing them at all, hence the creation of KoS maybe. I've always wondered if he did it just to imitate his mentor Southside Johnny (who has lost his voice too ) or to try his hand at another kind of music, covering songs he feels more comfortable singing because nobody expects him to scream as he used to do in the 80s...
