Arent sweatsocks the same as trainer socks? Ie ones with no "neck" as such so you dont look like a gimp when playing sports...so my housemate tells me

No I mean a balaclava, or a wool hat with holes cut in it to see through. That's what I think a sweatsock is.

Hmm, me too!

Maybe one of us should explain it in lamens terms...

It means a rolled up pair of socks, sweat socks is just an American term for sports socks, if you put them inside your shirt it will look like a lump and may resemble a gun. I.E - In English - Pray they think you've got a gun in your shirt. Or as Americans would say, pray they think you're packing!
