I like both bands, but I think that SWW is quite better. Livin on a prayer or Wanted are better than any song of Hysteria (in my opinion). and SWW have another great tunes as IŽd die for you, Wild in the streets, NEver say goodbye, you give love a bad name...

Dunno exactly, but I read on this board not that long ago that Def Leppard didn't write their own stuff. I heard they just used to write guitar riffs and let other people add the lyrics. Dunno, maybe a load of crap, and guess I shouldn't beleive everything I read.

Both are too good a album. But ofcourse vote has to go for SWW, but not by much.

I gotta go with Hysteria. While I loved Slippery When Wet.....It hasn't aged that well and for the most part...it seems to be an album of songs that are better enjoyed via the live versions. The studio versions on Slippery just don't seem fully realized compared to the live versions...especially in the case of Wanted Dead or Alive.

Hysteria is a studio masterpiece (along with Pyromania)....one of those rock records that needs to be owned...kind of like Dark Side of the Moon. Additionally...the songs are just far more realized than Slippery's. While the lyrics are cheesy for many of the songs, it is sonically a work of art. It was as if their whole intention with the songs was to be ironic with the contrast in the lyrics and the music, where the lyrics could be stupid, you couldn't overlook the genius of the music and arrangement. That is why it did not surprise me when later they began to write lyrics that actually matched the progressiveness of the music. It was evident they always had it in them.

Unfortunately they betrayed themselves with Adrenalize, which was an insincere pile of slop that attempted to be Hysteria II. As they had always done before, they needed to go on to the next level. Instead they wasted the spotlight time they got during Adrenalize, which ensured the mass media and public shunned them for good as an 80s Hair band has-been.

Def Leppard wrote or co-wrote every song on their album until the album X. X had two songs not co-written by the band. So yes, a load of crap.

It is true in Def Leppard's case regarding set lists. There are just too many songs they feel they HAVE to play and they underrepresent whatever the latest album is in the setlist. At least Bon Jovi tends to play quite a few songs from whatever their latest album, whether you like the album or not. It's never a good thing when a band starts playing very little from their newest album....and if you think it's a good thing because you happen to hate that album...think about that when they release an album you love and they play no more than 1 or 2 songs from it due to the precedence they set prior.

depends. new album or not, as with most of bands that have been going on like forever, there's plenty to choose from. I don't mind hearing old tunes every tour, I just wish they (or any band) would bleed their hearts into them instead of giving just a routine performances.

For example Metallica's recent tour. 2 songs from new album. but they do put up a killer show. I think it's a matter of attitude, some bands want to stun the audience, some wants to go through their set & go home. or wherever.

In Def Leppards case, there is plenty to choose from and they simply aren't. For the most part they play the Vault album live with a couple of new songs. Yes, last tour they played the first side of High N Dry..at least when I saw them..but they are still skipping over a lot of great material that has never seen the stage from post-Adrenalize 90s. There is also older material that isn't getting touched like Mirror, Mirror, Die Hard, Billy's Got a Gun, Gods of War (played a couple of times on the Euphoria tour..that's it). I really don't need to hear Armageddon It again. For that matter I'll be happy if I never have to hear Pour Some Sugar On Me...of course they'll do it..but it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't surrounded by a bunch of other also overplayed songs.
