Norm, you have misunderstood me. August 7 4:15 and Undivided both deal with difficult subjects, but both contain extremely bad lyrics that don't really pay tribute to the event that they are about. I didn't say the songs are simple to play, or that they are alike, which is how you seem to have understood my post. Please read my posts carefully.

If you want subtle 9/11 imagery I recommend The Rising. But I love Undivided- I really felt what Jon was trying to say here personally- the hurt, anger, and also joy at seeing how our country, and indeed the world pulled together during that hard time. It lacks subtlety but it is right on with what it has to say and expresses true, not contrived emotion.

krb,

>>I don't see the relation between August 7, 4:15 and Undivided. I've listened to both numerous times, and can't find anything. Someone says that the lyrics are simple? Well, would you have liked a song written in the style of James Joyce or something?? Simplicity is best sometimes...this is one of those times. <<

I didn't say that they are simple to play, nor did I say that they are alike. What I was saying is that simple lyrics are sometimes the best way to convey a message.

Would you rather listen to a speaker give a 2 hour long speech about an issue, and have many useless details, or a 30 minute presentation that gets straight to the point? I opt for the shorter one.

krb, I do understand what you are saying though, so please do not think that I am clueless.

Take Care,
Norm

you need 8 listens before you can decide if you like a Bon Jovi song, wow! I find 99% of the time I like a Bon Jovi song on the first listen and about 50% of the time I LOVE it on the first listen. for the ones I do not instantly fall in love with; it will generallly take 3-5 listens before I fully fall in love with the song. To this date I have not heard a Bon Jovi song that I do not like, and I've heard them all even the rare ones like Back Door To Heaven. Ofcourse I like some songs more then others. It's unreal to me how much farther above Bon Jovi is then the rest of the artists I like.

For me personally if I've listened to a disc 2 or 3 times and nothing impresses on it, I won't bother to listen to it again. I'm not going to try and make myself like a cd.

Comparing the content of a speech, to the lyrics of a song is not realistic. A speech has to be clear with its points, but music is art. It is like comparing the illustrations in a childrens book to a Monet. The pictures in the childrens book clearly show what is happening in the story.

krb,

I disagree. How can comparing the lyrics of a song and content of a speech not be realistic?

Music has to get across a point as well, or otherwise it would be meaningless. All musicians write with a point in mind. Think about, if they didn't all music would be boring, bland, and unimaginative. Yes, I understand that music is art, but so is speaking. President Reagan was labeled as the "Great Communicator" because of his wonderful and colorful display of words and thoughts. There are some speakers though that don't do a good job of painting a good picture with their words.

I am majoring in Speech Communcation in college, so you are hitting close to home here.

An intelligent sounding debate - Wow!! (A bit too intelligent for me )

Anyway - I think Undivided is amazing. - I haven't really thought about the meaning of the lyrics (I rarely do) - It is just a great song & as someone else on this board said - really does make the hairs on your neck stand on end. It didn't remind me of Aug 7th one bit.

I don't think Und. is meant to be a tribute - more an uplifter (The title of the albums Bounce, not Reflect). The guitar work is also superb from Richie - just a great song.

Concerning the whole album - to me it reminds me of one of those magic eye pictures (where you've got to stare @ it for ages before a picture appears). - With each listen it gets better & all the songs fall into place. I still have reservations about the 3 ballads (Yes 3) - but they do seem to fit in with the overall picture.

I know the whole point of a message board is for people to post their opinions but quite frankly, I'm beginning to think that whoever it was that invented these message boards in the first place should be beaten within an inch of his/her life.... everyone's entitled to their own opinion but I personally am SICK of hearing everyone elses... as the only opinion that matters to me is MY opinion and I don't need to go to a message board to announce my feelings on this CD. Like it or don't like it, criticize it or praise itk your opinion doesn't mean anything more than mine and no one on his board has the claim to knowing everything. Just because you state opinion as fact does NOT make it truth.

If you are going to come in here and say that LEAVE, you are not wanted.... So what, it's a place for everyone to post there opinions and have fun, so you want to take that away from them??

Norm: You have made the perfect case against your own argument.

Then surely Bon Jovi should try and do that whilst still trying to get their point across, they managed it on These Days.
