if he mentioned people who were murdered in his songs hed be there a long time singing.
they died for what they believed in. Dawn is correct, as are you. but essentially its for their belifs that stand them apart.

and people who dont think BJ's lyrics have anything to do with religion are thick or in denial.

and people who dont see why people like myself talk about why they mention God in their lyrics are also thick or in denial.

most of their songs use words that relate (as dawn wrote) to God in someway and the christian (or any other) faith.

i am now wondering why some idiots on this forum have such a hang-up about me asking a simple question, purely because it has something to do with God. it really makes me not want to come on here and share my interest with fellow Jovi fans. which is a shame because BJ are by far my favourite band and id like to have simple discussions with like minded people...which are few and far between on here.

Jon wasn't depressed when writing the These Days album was he? I thought I read somewhere that he and the band were happier than they'd ever been.

I don't think religious faith is a heavy theme in their writing...but I do think faith in yourself and sticking to what you believe in is a heavy theme though...

I read somewhere that at the time of writing Jon had become a born again christian and the song reflected that...I don't believe that to be true, for one thing, why would a born again christian write a song like Hey God on the same album...

At the end of the live version when he mentions the people,he then says "For All Those Who Believe"...I think he mentions them not because they were murdered but because they died for what they believe in...

I think you have to think a bit like an American on this one - it's part of our generation and our culture. Jon mentions John F Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. in the Yokohama version of this song. All were assasinated (murdered if you will) during a very turbulent period in our history. All of them were known for standing up for what they believed in. This is not a religious reference at all.

And at the Alliance of Neighbors concert right after 9/11 Jon chose to sing Abraham, Martin and John (by Richard Holler) referring to Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and John Kennedy. The song is a tribute to those involved in the battle for civil rights. The title refers to Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy. The last verse in the song refers to "Bobby" - JFK's brother, Robert Kennedy. Again all were assainated or murdered for what they believed in.

And I don't believe that Jon has ever been considered a born again christian at any time in his life - yeesh. He is an almost stereotypical liberal Italian catholic. At least he is stereotypical here in Jersey. I know far too many people just like him - myself included.

Jon mentions them because they died/known for what they believed in, that doesnt mean it is referenced to religion, no one said it was... Even though they are known as religious people also...

I dont think you need to be classed as a born again christian to believe.. you can be a believer of many things.
