Songs that would have been hits.

What makes a hit though? A quick glance at the ARIA charts is often quite disheartening to me.

Nothing from the 1st 2 albums.

Slippery - I'd Die For You, Raise Your Hands, Wild In The Streets
New Jersey - Wild Is The Wind
Keep The Faith - I Want You (don't care for it, but it was a sappy ballad and would have worked)
These Days - It's Hard Letting You Go (a bit slow, but maybe if they had edited it for radio, it could have worked)
Crush - Just Older
Bounce - Bounce
HAND - I Am
Lost Highway - Any Other Day

I agree and Unbreakable is just as cringe worthy as We Got It Goin' On. Either one would never have been hits and that's why they are not even on the record to begin with.

"Stay" could have worked, but I'm glad it wasn't on "Crush". It's a good song and everything, but the lyrics are just so weak. "Every singer's always singing about someone else", and then he just ends up in cheap cliches, instead of delivering some good personal lyrics... That ruins the song for me.

"One Wild Night" could have been a bigger hit, if they refused to release this stupid remix. Not that I'm saying the studio version has more potential, but that remix was just stupid.
I remember that at the time I was hoping "Two Story Town" would have been released. No idea if it would have worked, but it's a cool song and singles should reflect a band's diversity imo.

"Bounce" should have been a single - but then again I'm unsure as its verses are too similiar to "It's My Life", even the talkbox is there. So it might have sounded as a rip-off to people. Apart from that I don't see so many singles on the album. "Undivided" maybe at that time, but then again I'm unhappy with the production (while I like the heavy touch a lot) and with 9/11 singles at all. So glad it wasn't released.

"Last Man Standing" therefore should have been a single, and I should have been the director. Inspired by Jon's description of the lyrics I had such a cool black & white video in my head, with all that circus atmosphere, where some weird old guy invites people into the freak-show, where you see the Jovis playing as puppets on strings.

I'm happy with the singles from "Lost Highway", though I wonder why in this particular case it had to be 4 singles, while the last albums only had 3. I'm so glad "We Got It Going On" wasn't released, and I don't think "Any Other Day" would've had more success than "Whole Lot Of Leaving".

I agree that Unbreakable is pretty average and I already mentioned We Got it Going On in this thread, but I will defend Dirty Little Secret with my life. **** I love it.

Undivided, Bounce, Hook Me Up, Raise Your Hands, Wild in the streets, Any other day, We got it goin' on, ILTT, Last man standing...

I could go on forever, BJ have chosen some terrible songs to bring out as singles.

ìf "You give love a bad name" wouldnt exist, "Id die for you" had been a total hit, and about these days i think "This aint a love song" was a big hit in europe

Someone said Stay would have been Jovis I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing, but do we really want that? What a cliche song! Don't think it would have been a hit.

And i am talking about the UK here....but these days none of the other songs since 2000 would be a 'hit'. Haven't had a hit since 'It's My Life', don't think that's going to change. And if they released a different batch of songs off Bounce, Hand, LH it would have made no difference whatsoever imo.

And by hit i mean a proper hit. Not peak at number 8 (if it's lucky, due to diehards buying it) and then drop without trace.
