Default Songwriting thefts

Since I've recently run into several songs that have clearly "influenced" Bon Jovi's writing, I thought I'd start a post about finding out just how much the guys steal.

Now by stealing (instead of, say, borrowing) I mean when a piece of lyric, melody, chord progression etc. is lifted directly from another song, not something that just sounds similar. Things that come to mind right now are:

Billy Joel - that's not her style = Billy get your guns (chorus melody)
Bartholomew/King - I hear you knockin' = You really got me (chorus melody)
Tom Petty - I won't back down = Thief of hearts (chorus melody & lyric)
Bruce - Dancing in the dark = Social Disease ("You can't start a fire without a spark")
Bruce - Racing in the streets = You can sleep while I dream (verse melody)
Neil Young - Rocking in the free world = August 7th 4:15 (Chord and song structure)
Don Henley - Long way home = This is love, this is life ("there’s three sides to every story/ There’s yours, mine, (lately) there’s the cold hard truth")

There's a lot more that have been discussed a lot of times on this board, one that I don't know the name of (all you Neil Young-fans listen up)is a Young song that had at least a similar melody to a Jovi song from the first album. Not Runaway or Get ready, that much I remember. Heard it like 8 years ago, so no idea what it could be.

So, other songs Jovi have stolen from?

Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight = You Had Me From Hello

It's just a shameless copy, an awful one at that.

This is a great thread. Probably the best since the tour finished.

There is one that for me that has always stood out as a complete copy. Simple Minds - Don't you forget about me is a carbon copy (virtually) of Something To Believe In. I'm surprised this is not the first on everyones' list.

Elton John - Levon = Bon Jovi - Joey

Same song, heck Jon even covered it on that tribute album, but still managed to make Joey sound shit.

Well, lyrically and mood wise they are universes apart.. I don't even think they are that similar either, compared to the others already mentioned.

Oh, and Captain Crash and Oasis's Stay young are one in the same too.

I remember pointing that out to my brother (massive Bon Jovi fan) he looked at me like I had two heads and told me I was talking shite.

The intro is a direct lift for sure. Good to know someone else hears it.

Southside Johnny- Hearts of Stone (Never say Goodbye. I can't find any link in the melody, but Jon and Richie said that's where they stole NSG from in a live performance)

Rolling Stones - Wild Horses (Bitter Wine)

Joan Osborne - One of Us (Two Story Town)

Oasis - Stay Young (Captain Crash & The Beauty Queen From Mars)

Elton John - Levon (Joey)

Bob Dylan - Seven Days (Sympathy)

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Proud Mary (Shut Up and Kiss Me)

Counting Crowes - Accidentally in Love (Who Says + I Love This Town + The More Things Change)

Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls (Put the boy back in cowboy)

Lenny Kravitz - Dig In (Standing)

Train - Drops of Jupiter (Lucky)

Kiss - Hide Your Heart (Rosie)

This is what I got so far! There's more stuff in there but these are the most overkilling kind
