I think Taija is right. I love Bon Jovi's music but sometimes I am disappointed in what they do. After Slippery was such a huge success they hauled ass to bring us New Jersey, which happened to be their most successful album. I think they may have been looking for the same success with Bounce after the mass market success of Crush. They definitely fell short.
I enjoy listening to Bounce very much, they've incorporated many new production techniques and it's interesting. However, these same techniques draw from the pure goodness of the song. Most of the songs on Bounce are overproduced, and those that are not are similar in formula to already successful Bon Jovi songs. I've studied that album well, as much as I studied Crush and all the other's, and even though it's a fun album to listen to it is definitely NOT what Bon Jovi is capable of. I hope they don't rush the next album like they did this one.
Anyone who wants to hear more about my overproduction theories and examples of repeat formula songs can email me... it's very detailed and too much to post here.
