Default Story Of My Life on Spotify
Hey,

I was just listening to the Have A Nice Day album on Spotify and noticed that Story Of My Life has almost 13 million plays. That's not a crazy amount by any means but as far as I know it wasn't a single or anything, all the other songs that weren't singles are around 1-3 million🤔

Am I missing something and do people just like the song that much? or maybe did it have a bump thanks to social media that I missed? It's a small thing but it got me curious. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Wildly, this is something I think about a lot.

Like: https://www.youtube.com/@bonjoviguitarcovers Jespers videos range from a few hundred views to a few thousand but for whatever reason SOML has over 100k. I've never understood why but knowing it has that many on Spotify is VERY interesting.

EDIT: Holy Crow I figured it out. It has 7 million views on Youtube


There's a bunch of comments about "This is the song Metal Family used for chapter 10!!!!! :'D I'M SCREAMING!!!" It looks like Metal Family is a wildly popular Russian animated show and it found life in 2018 because of it. I'm super glad you posted this, thank you!

Yeah, I also stumbled on this several months ago and wondered if the band missed an opportunity to plug more "album tracks" onto popular TV shows. Just top of my head, Stranger Things catapulted Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill so much

They did it with Runaway rightfully played in a Stranger Things episode. Didn't get any hype except for me

I have the impression that runaway did get extra hype from stranger things.
I mean, for example, it used to be less famous/popular then most of the singles off of NJ but now I think it competes straight with I ll be there for you and wins hands down against all others. I say this by intuition but anyone who wants to check the stats (albeit from the last years if possible) can verify whether I m right.

Not sure about the last 12 months, but overall on Spotify Runaway has over 326,000,000 streams.

I'll Be There For You has over 231,000,000
Bad Medicine almost 212,000,000

The rest of the NJ singles are way behind that - so going by those stats your are correct.

Prayer, Bad Name, It's My Life, Always, Wanted and Bed Of Roses seem to be the only ones with more overall streams.

It's interesting that IBTFY has almost double the views on Youtube than Runaway in the last 15 years. And kids these days normally listen to Spotify, so one could argue, based on this very limited information, that Runaway got some newly discovered popularity. And Runaway is No. 7 on daily streams of all Jovi hits (interesting that Now or Never is still in top10)
